Rasheed Wallace putting forth the effort/work

Post#1 » by Dirty Water » Sun Sep 6, 2009 9:25 pm

I was reading the official press release on Celtics.com of the Daniels signing and they added a little tidbit about Wallace and some of the other Celtics players coming in ahead of schedule and early to work on their games. Looks like the man is optimistic and is going to put forth an effort this year (some would say as opposed to last year)

And while training camp officially starts at the end of September, much like the summer of 2007, guys are already congregating in Waltham and getting ready for that very title run Daniels is suggesting. Ainge reported that Wallace has been in "at 8 am the last couple of days" and mentioned Paul Pierce, Rajon Rondo, Glen Davis, J.R. Giddens and Lester Hudson as being regulars in Waltham as of late.

great to see a good number of the guys, including sheed getting things started early

I'm not worried about his focus to be honest, if he wasnt in all out championship mode he wouldnt have ended up a C

That's good to hear. I don't think Sheed will be a problem when he's here. He respects KG too much to settle into his old ways.

Excellent. I think we were all wondering how motivated he'd be.

I'm more interested in JR and Hudson coming in regularly. Really rooting for the both of them. JR's really gone underappreciated around here. Walker seems to be more popular due to his pre-draft hype and due to seeing more minutes, but JR was neck and neck with him in the D League and has shown more dedication (has a clover tatted on his head, IIRC). He's also shown more improvement and looks more like an NBA player at this stage.

Also, I don't know how you can be on the team and see that some of your teammates are putting in the dedication and you aren't. Especially if you're TA, when the team just brought in Daniels to move you down in the rotation and your heir apparent is working harder than you for a million less. Way to earn your money, Tony.

*Fixed*

But seriously, I know how you guys feel, cause I see guys like Artest, Kobe, Lamar doing the samething. It makes me feel good about how these guys are so focused on winning.

You guys better be ready. this might be the year we face each other again and only the strong will survive. The Lakers of course.

To get a month playing with Pierce, Rondo, Davis and Sheed before training camp even begins could be huge for Hudson. He's the guy on the bubble for making the team, and if he's comfortable with his teammates before the coaches even show up it could be the difference between the NBA and Europe for him.

put it this way too.

ignore KG for a second

With the addition of Rasheed Wallace, and our Sheed/Perkins/Baby/Scal/Shelden frontline, we can definitely take the new and improved Magic to 7 games just as we did last year. And this team as constituted without KG can certainly hang with the new and improved Cavs.

Add a healthy KG.. and it pretty much puts us over the top. But seeing how well we performed without KG/Powe last postseason, the addition of Sheed/Daniels makes us a title contender without Kevin Garnett (you couldn't say that before; with Rondo, Allen/Pierce, Davis/Perkins, Sheed, Daniels, House... you can).

That's why, even though we need KG to win the championship, we can still compete for the East with the roster minus KG. You can't say that about any other team except the Lakers minus Kobe, which may even be better than the Lakers plus Kobe!.

Think about it. It makes sense to those who watch the Celtics.

I don't care how improved the Magic/Cavs are..

Anyone who watched that entire Celtics/Bulls and Celtics/Magic series, and bearing in mind that PP/Ray's minutes will come down considerably this season, can't ignore how good we were without KG.

It showed you how good Pierce and Allen really are (superstars, albeit aged). And Rondo, Perk and Baby were big time producers. Add Sheed and Daniels to last year's team and we would have been facing Cleveland and possibly LA. This year, we can still hang with the others in the top 5.

KG puts us over the top. That's why, however talented LA is, and however deep Orlando is, we're a step ahead of the rest and it will become clear 41 games in.

Great to hear that the guys are already gearing up for the season.

However, can someone explain to me what working out in Waltham means? Is that a Celtics only practice facility where the team has the run of the gym/court and the Celtic trainers are also on hand to make sure nothing happens to the guys?

You understand that Giddens is 3 years older than Walker? What do you base that last sentence on. He hasn't played any ball yet, he was the first round draft pick. He looks more like an NBA player sitting on the bench in street clothes?
