'Sheed Won't Start?
In this recent CNNSI.COM article the author states that sheed will not be starting. How is this possible? If correct, this truly a tragedy.

Re: 'Sheed Won't Start?
Perk is the starter and the better fit next to KG in the lineup. It's not a tragedy, this isn't a video game, you can't just put the five best guys out on the court all the time. Putting Perk next to KG and having Sheed bring some game off the bench is the smart move.

Re: 'Sheed Won't Start?
and it makes us incredibly deep.
Our third and fourth bigs are Sheed and Baby. Sheed in our system is as good and effective as any player on an NBA bench today. you'll see.
It's like asking - why doesn't Lamar Odom start? But look how deep it makes the Lakers with Odom off the bench. Sheed is kind of like our Odom in that sense, or even our Ginobili in that regard. The problem is that with the kind of player he is, and with his mailing it in last season, most people have a warped perspective.
Sheed is pretty much interchangeable with KG in our system in many ways. And for stretches you play him with KG giving the Celts arguably the most versatile frontline since the 80s (KG/Sheed, even at this age, can give you things that Duncan/Robinson couldn't). Why do you think the Big 3 were salivating at the prospects during Sheed's press conference? watch it on youtube. I tell you, you'll rarely see them this excited and fired up. Even the Cavs aren't anywhere near this excited with Shaq on board. Vince Carter is fired up to be home, but not like this. The excitement of the Big 3 getting Sheed is unlike anything we've seen... it's like what you'd get if good friends Bosh and Wade got to play together next year, or if Wade and LeBron get on the same team, or something.
It is that chemistry and the desire to make the best of this unprecedented opportunity that is key. You get echoes of that with Artest in LA acting as if he's always wanted to play with Kobe, but it's not quite like this.

Ain't that something? Last year Big Baby was our number 1 big at the end of alot of games..and we still took Orlando to 7 games..now Baby will be our 4th big..a guy that just played fantastic basketball in the playoffs, and STARTED for us!!!!How many teams have that same luxury? None man..We are truly blessed with our bigs..

Re: 'Sheed Won't Start?
It would be a tragedy if he did start, not the other way around. When Perk and KG are healthy they are the best defensive front court in basketball, not to mention Rasheed is the eldest of the bunch and will benefit from not being overplayed.

Re: 'Sheed Won't Start?
This thread isn't surprising really... Perkins is one of the most underrated frontcourt players in the NBA. Sheed won't start, but given Doc's infatuation with floor spacing late it games it's highly likely that Sheed will finish games. And I think there are some situations where Sheed/Perk will actually be a stronger duo than KG/Sheed or KG/Perk such as when we face up against Gasol/Bynum... at least I think so because Sheed is a better low post defender against Gasol and Perkins could shut down Bynum.
Overall, the Celtics have the deepest and best balanced frontcourt in the NBA:
Pierce/Daniels
KG/Davis
Perkins/Sheed
With Davis coming in lighter and quicker the C's will also be in a better position to defend the quicker more perimeter oriented PF's as well.

Re: 'Sheed Won't Start?
Of course he won't start. At this point, Perk is better than Sheed. He also compliments Garnett much better than Sheed.

Yeah, Davis might be a better player and more in shape. But on the flipside he may have lost his ability to play/defend centers

I wouldn't put too much stock into what Chris Mannix thinks about basketball. He's a pretty good sports writer but doesn't really understand the game.
-Ranked the New Jersey Nets @ 29. That's a severe oversight since it has one of the best young cores (Lopez, Yi, Terrence Williams, Courtney Lee, Harris) in the league and made a playoff push last year.
-Ranked the Sixers as the second best team in the Atlantic Division (Raps no doubt)
-Started a sentence with "If Roy Hibbert becomes an impact player."
-Placed the Spurs, Cavs AND Lakers ahead of the C's (Boston/LA @ 1/2)
-Wizards @ 8 after ranking 29th last year?
This guy has no basketball sense.

All of what he and you're saying is completely subjective. I believe it's a fact that Perkins will start, IIRC Danny or Doc said he was still the starter. However, as for your criticisms...
-Good young core, but they lost their best player, Vince Carter. Devin Harris is the only man on that roster that is a legit impact player on games. Lopez, Lee, and the rest of that core are only role players at this point.
-I think I agree that I'd put the Raptors ahead of the Sixers, but the Sixers are a proven playoff team, there's no telling if the Raptors' moves will pan out. They're still a pretty weak defensive team.
-In 2005, the Pacers drafted another four year college player at number 17 that turned out to be a pretty good impact player. Look him up.
-Honestly, ranking the entire top five in the NBA is completely subjective. As long as he has the right teams in the top five, in whatever order, he's not a complete idiot.
-Don't be so short-sighted. The Wizards were a playoff team just the year before, are getting Arenas back, and added Foye and Miller to that team since. 8's still high in my book, but that's not to say it's impossible.
The guy has basketball sense, just maybe not the best basketball opinions.

Re: 'Sheed Won't Start?
Sorry OP, anyone who's ever watched the Celtics could have told you that when Sheed was signed. Perk is our starter - a true inside defensive presence who, with KG form the best 4-5 combo in the league. Sheed just make our bench much stronger.

IF Sheed did start, who shoots 3's off the bench? Just 1 man, Eddie House? Sounds unlikely.

This is the correct answer. He will probably get extended minutes on the " Perk with 2 fouls early in the 1st quarter" games. I do see him as one of the closers though

Re: 'Sheed Won't Start?
The really funny thing is there is a belief, the fact that he won't have to start and play 35 mins a game is one of the key reasons Sheed chose to come to Boston. No one knows better than Sheed that him in a 35 mpg starting role is not going to equal a championship.
