Verno: Iverson to decide on grizz tommorow

Post#1 » by Shemy » Thu Sep 3, 2009 11:41 pm

just heard on the chrs vernon show, (Roser reported it) that Allen iverson will decide whether to join the grizzlies or not Friday (tomorrow)......imho I believe hes just saying to get a deal somewhere else he prolly prefers CHA to reunite with brown, or one pf the other big market teams that have shown some kind of intreste in him (NY/MIA)

Good luck Mephis fans. I really would like him in Mia though, just so he has a chance at a title something that I don't think will come from Memphis.

Whatever happens, happens. I won't lie, as much as there is that I don't like about the potential situation, there are a lot of positives to it as well. We'll just have to wait another day or two I guess :)

why do people think he wants to reunite with Larry Brown anyways? I thought they argued / clashed all the time and one reason Larry Brown left Philly. was it all a game? or just media hype?

Celtics fan here.

I think you got your answer from A.I. today.

It seems that you are a bargaining chip to get to a team/coach that he really wants to play for.

God help you guys if you do wind up with him, 34 year old A.I. is not what you need. But what do I know, I think Iverson should be coming off the bench (heaven forbid) for the Lakers, Magic or Celtics.

I'm also hoping Iverson opts for Memphis. I think fans in here really sell players like Mayo and Gay short when they say Iverson and Randolph will be negative influences on them. I mean what is going to happen to them? Are Mayo and Gay suddenly going to be walking and talking differently, and acting and saying stupid things because Iverson and Randolph are around?

I think if Heisley meets with Iverson, the expectations are clearly laid out, and Iverson agrees to them, then as far as I'm concerned the Grizzlies will have upgraded their backcourt on offense, although I would love to see a defensive type of guard somewhere in the rotation.

Lionel Hollins is the coach, and it's up to him to get Iverson to play how he wants him to and address whatever role he wants him to play. Hollins has a bit of a reputation as a players coach. And assistant Damon Stoudamire has experience playing against Iverson and as a peer he should have a role in talking with Iverson and getting him on the same page.

The front office may not know how to put together a winning formula with the pieces all fitting together properly on both ends of the floor but you can't argue argue that they haven't made a big upgrade in individual talent and depth with Iverson and Randolph. And if players like Williams, Carrol, Young, Thabeet, and Haddadi, not to mention second year player Arthur and journeymen Jaric and Hunter can learn then they finally have some bench depth as well.

It's an improvement over Lowry, Crittendon, Buckner, Ross, and Milicic.

Grizzlie fans - hope Iverson signs with your team. Then bring back D-MIles ( since your management still thinks he can play ). Imagine Z-Bo, Iverson and D-Miles - all great role models.

I really liked where this Memphis team was heading until the Z-Bo and Iverson signings. I don't think these are really positive moves for the club. Maybe I'm missing something......

Really? You prefer Darrell Arthur starting at the 4 and Marko Jaric coming off the bench to spell OJ Mayo?

I would have preferred if they made a move for Carlos Boozer.

What pieces did your team have to get Boozer? and besides what has he won anyway? You bash Zach labeling him a cancer but you want a loser on your team who throws his team under the bus and disloyal like a guy in Boozer?
Iverson, Iggy, Willie Green, Sammy D, Josh Smith, Rasheed and Ben Wallace, Larry Hughes Garnett, Francis, Lebron, Melo, K Mart, Wade, Amare, Q Richardson, T Mac, DC, and C Webb

Step away from the ledge, Memphis. Don't do this. Please.

You're better off. You're better than this. I mean it.

Depends if the Jazz wanted actual talent or a straight salary dump.

Boozer has been an all star on a couple of successful 50+ win Jazz teams.

Who's Boozer exactly thrown under the bus? And while his situation with the Cavs was shady, he did what was best for him.

Me too. I would have preferred even more than that if they made a move for Amare, or a move for Bosh, or a move for Wade, or a move for Lebron etc.

We can speculate all day long about alternative courses of action that may be preferable; but at the end of the day, I think it's more worthwhile to discuss what has actually happened. By that I mean, we have improved the talent on this team significantly - and I don't think that's debatable. Obviously, chemistry and development of the young guys are concerns -- but we will be rolling out a much more talented team to tip off 09-10 than we did in 08-09, and I'm excited for that alone.

I'm just afraid that Iverson is going to demand the ball and shots so much, that it's gonna take away from OJ Mayo, especially. With Warrick gone, I see the need for Randolph and having a front court force, so I'm not having that much of an issue with that. It's just the baggage those guys both have, and having to deal with it always in the back of people's minds (the media). Hopefully, it works out.
