Confused me a bit, but it sounds like we're trying to get J.R. Giddens, Tony Allen, Brian Scalabrine, or all 3 in some package with the C's and Rockets. He says Boston would keep Wilkins but buy out Atkins
I'm a Giddens fan so I hope they turn two bums into Giddens and see if he can turn into a decent bench player - maybe something more if he puts it all together. Who cares about the Atkins savings this year, take a chance on an athletic wing.

Re: BOS Trade Rumor
I like the idea. Quick look at a possibility?
Boston gets: Shane Battier
Minnesota gets: JR Giddens, Tony Allen, and Brian Scalabrine
Houston gets: Chucky Atkins and Damien Wilkins
Tony Allen would be shown the door immediately, but the chance at JR Giddens as a prospect would be interesting. Obviously there would have to be some sort of balance thrown in to compensate Houston more for dumping the best player for just cap savings. Can't see Boston being interested in anyone else off either team, that either team would be willing to dump. Battier would be great as a back-up behind Pierce and Allen. Power shift in the East.

Giddens beasted in his 8 minutes last year. Just look at his per36 numbers: 19.4 pts, 13.8 boards!
Seriously, I don't really know much about him. Should I get excited or not?

How many SG's average nearly 20/14? Of course you should get excited!

Giddens is by no means something to get excited about. He's no better than Wilkins.
I can't imagine what hou's would be looking for.
Sounds more like BOS wants Wilkins more than anything. They were trying to dump TA + Giddens + Scal in the S&T for Daniels w\ indy for a month or 2.

Re: BOS Trade Rumor
Allen is an average SG at best, but I wouldn't be against him. He's athletic and I think he can actually play D.
Giddens is unproven who might have more upside than Wilkins.
Scalabrine is brutal, but an expiring. I'd rather have Cardinal get his minutes.
I guess Allen and Giddens are better or at least offer more excitement than Wilkins, so I guess if we think the cap space we'd save by cutting Atkins is better served hoping one of them can surprise us then go for it.

It's "rumored" that Tony Allen can play defense, but he hasn't actually lived up to the reputation in a couple years. He gets torched every game. He's a knucklehead.

QFT, I want nothing to do with Allen. Giddens is an interesting prospect though I guess. Is he still getting stabbed in the leg at clubs, or has he cleaned up his act?

Re: BOS Trade Rumor
The Mathew D Hume stuff is pretty much banned on the C's board, but Boston is certainly trying to move out those guys to free up roster spots and cash.
JR is 23 years old and doesn't have a great track record put up good numbers as a senior, and was supposed to be a poor man's Courtney Lee, who Boston really wanted so they wouldn't have to resign Tony Allen. JR was not nearly as NBA ready as hoped and so we ended up with both.
Tony Allen is a better player than given credit for just not the brightest player. He is a very good defender he is just put on the spot with the "go guard Kobe" on the last possession stuff after not playing the entire half. If he could stay healthy he would be a good player on ,well how do I say it, bad team, at least he was for Boston when they were bad.
Scal is like Larry Bird or Dirk just without any of the basketball ability.
Not sure what the HOU end of it is, as it seems like MINN/BOS trade. Boston would certainly have an interest in Brent Barry but I don't know what else HOU is trying to get rid of.

I like this from a D-League perspective. Boston has been trying to dump Giddens all summer, and he'll spend the year with Maine if he isn't traded.

Kahn doesn't want a good player on a bad team, hence the Foye/Miller trade. What he wants is to collect as many good players on good teams as he can while still being a bad team.sully00 wrote:The Mathew D Hume stuff is pretty much banned on the C's board, but Boston is certainly trying to move out those guys to free up roster spots and cash.

If we were not trading Atkins magically disappearing contract here, I would say go for it. But that's not enough when half the teams in the NBA are hurting financially next year.

Re: BOS Trade Rumor
Giddens is an okay prospect. He went to Kansas but transfered and I cant remember why. He could be the new Carney, athletic guy who can really jump and jam. Allen could be good, but he's a **** idiot.
Scal is too beastly to put on this team when we already have Cardinal, just not fair to other teams. That's pry why we traded Madsen.

Mostly because he's crazy and has had issues at every stop. He left Kansas after he started a fight, and ended up getting stabbed.

My guess is that might be the HOU angle in all of this, maybe they add some value to MINN if they can swap Barry for Atkins and Boston would have some interest in Barry.
But beyond that the Wolves are a bit thin at SG and Allen would give you guys someone to plug into the rotation or even the starting line up now while Giddens develops.

Re: BOS Trade Rumor
I think if its Atkins + Wilkins, it would at least require Giddens plus Bill Walker from BOS in a 2-team deal. Atkins is worth $5.5 mil to some team over the lux, and JJ Giddens isn't that level of prospect.
I like sully's idea, with Barry going to BOS, and MIN sending HOU Atkins. HOU is only about $5 mil over the lux, and MIN can cut that in half, and maybe more, if they take on salary within the 125% match. Could Battier be involved? How would he look in BOS? And how could MIN get compensated for making the deal possible for both teams.
