Will danny answer the call?
We all know how good granger is but i personally believe he tends to go missing in the 4th quarter in a lot of games. Hopefully another season under his belt has matured this kid into the true all star we know he can be. What do you guys think?

Re: Will danny answer the call?
It's all about the supporting cast IMO. Anyone can hit a game winning shot now and again, but in today's game it's all about the amount of weapons in your arsenal.
Last year, apart from Danny, few had the ability to put the team on their shoulders during late stretches. A couple of guys have showed glimpses of it, but until our starters and quality bench players become major offensive threats, it will be hard for him to be free enough to cause that late damage in games.

I think Danny's offense was fine in the 4th Q last year. Defense in the 4th needs work though, just like the rest of the team. They just could not get stops in the 4th.

Danny averaged 6.9 PP4Q. Like da OG says, it wasn't a scoring problem, it was a team defense problem. Danny is sinking the shots, but the opponents are just sinking more.

Danny didn't show up in the 4Q? You do realize he was like second in the NBA in 4Qppg right?

I remember he was the 4th in 4Qppg.
The three in front of Danny was LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Dywane Wade.

He was tied with D-Wade for a while. In any case, this thread doesn't seem to be standing on solid ground.

Sure, 7pts a game in the 4thQtr. Great. But 6.5 of those points probably came in the first nine mins of the quarter. Im talkin when it comes down to those two or three clutch plays somebodys gotta start taking some responsability. And yes i fully agree, a little defense would go a long way towards some W's

He was second:

He averaged 7.5 ppg, and it was relatively evenly spread over the quarter:
12-9: 22%
9-6: 25%
6-3: 27%
3-0: 26%
I have no idea what you're talking about, and clearly, neither do you.

Re: Will danny answer the call?
And in the clutch ( final five minutes) hes ranked 22nd
http://www.82games.com/0809/CSORT11.HTM
Not to mention hes only shooting at 39% at that time.
I still love the kid but id loke to see that 22nd be more like a top 10-15 if he wants to be a true all star

Re: Will danny answer the call?
I'm not a big fan of the stats in that link. First, it should be narrowed down to people BEHIND and within 5 points with 5 minutes left, not both ahead and behind, because the mentality is completely different. I'd say around 80% of Granger's attempts from the field at that point are 3's to get us closer, and that's why his FG% is so low, but his 3P% is 38%. Then, you have to remember that Jim O'Brien is always running crunch time offense through TJ Ford.
Also, in these stats, there's guys like Nate Robinson and Zach Randolph and Jamaal Crawford and John salmons in here. Most coaches would take Granger over these guys for the last shot. Granger is also super-clutch on those free throws. Then there are a few notables BELOW Granger on that list like Billups and Durant.
Lastly, after watching a bunch of games last year, it's just very clear that teams are truly afraid of Danny Granger in the last few minutes of close game. So why did Granger not perform? The main reason is because Granger would get double-teamed harder than any other person on this list, except for James and Wade. Notice how when we played the Lakers, we had to cover all the options (Pau, Odom, Ariza), so Jarrett Jack was the only guy on Kobe? Carmelo can take way more single-defended shots (like his attempt against Dallas) because of Billups. What I'm saying is Danny Granger may not have been one of the top clutch performers last season, but it's not because he lacks the ability, it's more because the team as a whole can't execute in the clutch to help him out. When we lost all those close decisions, it was because of our execution as a team. Nobody was looking at Danny and asking him why he didn't make a bunch of shots.

Granger took his game to an all star level last year and was very reliable in clutch situations. I can only see him getting better in the upcoming season.

Re: Will danny answer the call?
I think your grasping at straws, as someone posted Granger was the 2nd highest scoring player in the 4th quarter, then you said that was all at the beginning of the 4th quarter, you were again proven incorrect by Count's post.
There are things Danny needs to work on but scoring or hitting big shots are pretty low on the list, I like the title of this thread but it should be more geared towards defense because that is what he needs to improve to "answer the call"

Re: Will danny answer the call?
Spudmonkeys actually correct in this porognosis in my opinion. Danny WAS an all star last season IF the Pacers had become more of a winning team. The difefernce between making shots in the 4th and making shots in the last 2 minutes of the 4th is "star" and "superstar". Granger right now isa star, but he is yet to prove that he is of Wade, Bron, Kobe stuperstar status. He definately has the ability. As a Warrior fan, I hope he steps it up for you guys in the next few seasons.

Re: Will danny answer the call?
If your thinking he needs to step up to the level of the players you mentioned you are misinformed, Danny will likely never reach the level of those players and I dont think that is what Spudmonkey intended with this thread.
And Danny Granger was an allstar, so not sure where you were going with that point.
