Petrie's drafting acumen was superior to his trading skill and phenomenally better than his free agent signings. Drafting Predrag and Hidayet were stroke of genius - right up there with the spurs' drafting of manu. He got the best of the deal in both trades for bibby and webber. But the prices he paid to retain free agents was his undoing. Webber and Bibby were worth roughly half of what he paid them. Those two huge contracts pushed the Kings into the luxury tax and they were unable to add pieces to the team. Once one of the big pieces went down, so did the kings. However, the magoofs bear the ultimate responsibility, it was their 122 million they decided to give an aging, injury-prone webber.

Seriously, why are you trying to get banned? After this thread, you will be- you got warned in the webber thread. I would like to agree with Smills completely on the statement he said about you in the webber thread.

Draft wise Geoff really hasn't been all that great. You have a lot of steals late, but his track record in the lotto is only so-so. That's why I'm really interested to see if he is capable of building a team through the draft. I don't think he's really had the chance to do that before.

He's had three lottos pre-Tyreke... Jason Williams turn out fine, Spencer looks good and JT... whats wrong about those picks?...

I'm a big fan of the Spencer and Tyreke picks, but those are yet to be judged, way too soon. Give it some time and see where those picks rank historically speaking. Historically speaking his lotto picks have been pretty average players and there is no way to argue against that, it's the truth. 3 lotto's pre-Tyreke? By who's math??? Brian Grant, Corliss Williamson, Oliver Saint-Jean, and Jason Williams, not exactly the lotto list of anyones dreams is it?

Oh, like I said though, he's never really been able to build a team through the draft before. A lot of his average lotto accomplishment could be contributed to the fact that the Kings had remained in a state of indefinite mediocrity for so long. Now he's finally worked his way up the draft board into the sweet spots, no more middle of the road best of the rest crap.

Woop, sorry. I forgot about those really early ones. But Grant, Williamson and Jason Williams all were starters on eventual champ teams (Williams was on Miami in 05, right?) - so at the very least, he's never drafted a bust.

No question, his track record is pretty good overall. He's never drafted a bust (maybe Douby, but I still think he's never been given a fair shot!), but there's no question, his track record in the lotto is fairly average. His mid-late 1st round draft picks are usually well above average for where they were picked however which brings his grade up a bit. Up to this point I think it could be argued the best player he's ever drafted in Sac has been Kevin Martin. Now I do happen to think Tyreke and Spencer will both surpass him in those terms but that's still comparing possibilities with factual history.

I don't recall Brian Grant winning a title and Corliss was a 6th man for the Pistons, but a major key to their success regardless. He won 6th man of the year with them as well. Both were rock solid players.
