Tried to get up early to ride my bike before work. It didn't happen. LOL

As for getting the ball out of the net, CCJ, good for you! ( how 'bout this :) the ball stuck in the net is the weight issue you struggle with. the more you train the closer you get to your goal of getting the ball loose. once you get it loose a whole new world will open up now you can PLAY BALL!!) seriously though, that in itself should be plenty of encouragement to get back on (the) track. Youmight be in better shape at 190 or so now, then you were at 190 the last time. Mostly because you train so hard to get down to 190, you'll be in much better shape then when you were gaining the weight to make it to 190. or even 210 for that matter. i was still able to touch the rim at 205.

good luck, CCJ, let me know how you progress.

Also, buy a mutha ff'n bike and go riding and crosstraining. pick some hills and burrrrrrrnnnnnnnnn!!!

Zero, I bought a mutha ff'n bike!

Got a 26" mountain bike, 21 speeds, with a 2-year warranty in case I break the thing. Total cost was under $200. Could have got one close to $100 that seemed more built for speed, but it felt delicate and had thin tires and all. Not the one for me. I'm just planning on starting out slow--riding it places where the speed's under 30, and to the gym. It'll take me a while to work up to going any great distances, but I'm sure there are some trails around.

Scared me remembers a time when I did weigh around 200 and I used to ride all the time. Somebody ran me off the road and didn't even slow down to see if I was okay. I confess I didn't ride bike in traffic after that. I know I probably sound like a chicken shyt, but I'm cautious about this ...

Any how, buying it is a start. I'll keep you posted on the rest ...

Nice! my bike was also under $200.00 and i have been riding it to death. i am looking to upgrade fairly soon but you'll get a long way on your bike. There's nothing like it! Once you hit some trails you'll be hooked. let me know and i'll come down. there are some real good trails in and around DC.

I wish I was at 177!

weight seems to have stabilized for the moment, and a bit higher (~5 lbs)
than I would prefer.

the good news is that my podiatrist was able to see me on short notice.
My appt is today and hopefully they'll figure out what the dealio is on
my foot which has felt better the last day or so but hurt on Sunday during
my trail running. My half is coming up quick.

Your foot pain may have something to do with you running 50+ miles every week.

Except that I don't run even close to that amount

other than weeks including actual ultramarathon events, I typically
(ie almost never) do not exceed somewhere around 35-40 miles a week.
My max week might look like this

Mon - rest - might run at most 2-3 miles easy
Tues - bike and swim
Wed - do an interval workout which probably totals under 5 miles
Thurs - (back in the day, do a 10K tempo run) these days bike/swim
Fri - bike some more
Sat - 5 mile tempo run
Sunday - 10-20 mile (with a very occasional over-distance run of 25-30 miles)

I hurt my foot when I stepped on something boogie-boarding in the ocean
at Nags Head.

I'm still in awe at how much total exercise you put in every week. You also bike to and from work every day, right? How far do you bike (both on your commute and during your workouts)?

My weekly routine looks like this:

Monday - basketball
Tuesday - tempo run 5 miles
Tuesday night - lift weights, upper body, about 30 minutes
Wednesday - swim 2000 yards
Thursday - interval run, 4-5 miles total
Friday - lift weights, upper body, about 30 minutes
Saturday - long run 7-10 miles
Sunday - bike 20-25 miles (sitting upright on a big-ass hybrid bike that weighs about 30 pounds)

So I total 15-20 miles a week running, plus basketball. I'm trying to get that up to about 25 over the next month (i'll get up to 6/6/12 on my runs). When the pool closes this weekend, I'll lose my Wednesday swim. I'll probably make it a rest day though I should bike.

I have a hard time running on back-to-back days. I like to give my body a day to rest. My Tuesday runs always hurt the most because I'm coming off of basketball the night before. I miss my youth when I could play basketball and not be sore afterwards. :(

your workout schedule isn't that much different in terms of total activity than mine

for the last week

wed - a few intervals
thu - bike to work and swim (iirc, it was around 2800 m)
fri - was going to bike to work but didn't
sat - 5 mile tempo run
sun - 2:40 trail run, 1300 m recovery swim workout
mon - nothing
tues - bike to work
today - 6 mile 'tempo' run except I ran my dog into the ground and it
ended up more like 5.5 miles with the last 1.5 miles me dragging the
dog behind.

my bike to work is a RT of 47 miles. I've concluded that there may
be something esp helpful about doing 2 discreet workouts in the same
day. But it's just a feeling with no hard data to back anything up.

I got in to see the podiatrist and he extracted a couple pieces of foreign
material out of my foot. It was quick and fairly painless. Thankfully.

I need to ramp up my running to around 25-30 miles/week and make sure
I do some intervals every week. I normally do them on Wed but didn't tonight
to run with friends instead.

they were pretty small

big enough to be felt certainly, but one piece of shell/sand grain was
maybe about the size of the head of a pin. Still right under the ball
of my foot. The doc thought it might be a small shard of glass at first.

the foot feels much better today.

starting to think seriously about Philly. Should be fun. It's been a couple
years since I raced a half.

K, just got a new bike this afternoon. last years model, saved a boatload. (2008 mongoose teocali comp, for those who care)
Hit the trails with a 17 yr trailriding vet for 14 miles around loch raven reservoir (mills knows) to break it in. I am stoked!! I just need to buy a longer seat post since i bought a small frame bike. i cant fully extend my legs which is a B on the uphills.
Anyway, still trying to keep my cheapo bike road worthy to take some buddys out on the trails. not a super great bike, but far from crap (the cheapo) and will serve its rider well. Anyway, i say this in case one wants to ride and needs a bike...

So is it fair to weigh yourself after you've just sweated off two pounds? I figure since I do it each time and all I'm really interested in is how much weight I've lost, not what my actual weight is, then it's ok. Also for some reason I weigh two pounds less right after I wake up in the morning then in the middle of the day.

Well, I imagine my "actual" weight is what I would weigh at an mma weigh in, and I would probably sweat off a few pounds for that anyway.

after spending a week of no workouts/hard labor patio excavation, taking
iron supplements, I participated in my 16 consecutive yearly Reston Triathlon
(olympic distance). It was fun.

I had a solid (1 mile) swim at 31 min and change and a total time of
2 hours 42 minutes. Given how weak I had felt the preceding few
weeks, I just went out and relaxed and had fun. Mission accomplished.

Half marathon next Sunday in Philly.

Ran 5 miles Monday, 6.5 miles Wednesday, 5 miles Thursday and 12 miles Saturday. That's the most I've ever run in a single week.

I tried slowing down on my long run. Normally, I try to maintain an 8:00 pace for the entire long run. This time, I alternated running 1/2 mile at a 8:00 pace followed by 30 seconds of walking. Wow! What a difference it made! I had plenty of energy to handle the 9-degree hill at the end of my route and I wasn't even that sore when I finished. Normally, I'm useless for the rest of the day.

We start Y-League basketball this week so that's going to take away a day of running. I'll drop back down to 3 runs a week, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Mondays are basketball. Wednesday and Sunday will be lift days. Fridays I take off.

The 1/2 Marathon is on October 18th.

It's normal.

Think about it, you pee right before bed at night, but you still have a full bladder in the morning even though you didn't drink anything. While you sleep, your kidneys continue to filter the poisons out of your system, generating urine while depriving your body of fluids. (You also sweat a fair amount over the course of 7-8 hours of sleeping under a blanket.) Basically, we all wake up in the morning mildly dehydrated.

pleased and a little surprised to report a pretty successful Philly Distance
Run (half marathon).

1:33 and change, good for 48th out of 579 in my 5 year age-group
and a 72.9% wava score.

I was a bit surprised to do quite that well. I guess the rest and
iron supplements did me well. Plus I think a HM is probably
my best distance. Course was flat and fast, weather was
pretty ideal with lots of shade on the course. I stayed
steady throughout. My worst mile was the first (7:23) and
in spite of a field 12,000+ it wasn't that crowded at the start,
my best mile was the last with a sub 7.

now to prep for NY, one long slow training run next
Saturday and weekly intervals with maybe a final
tuneup 10K in there for good measure. I think a sub
3:20 may be within reach. Or not. Time will tell.

side note - the race was won by AMERICAN Ryan Hall
against a field of elite kenyans. Chuck Moeser, a local
(Sterling) runner who I've know for years won his
age-group (55-59) with a 1:19 and an amazing WAVA
score of over 90% which basically means national to
world class. He won his age-group by about 2.5 minutes.
Not too shabby in a huge race like that.
