None of these trades make me very satisfied. I guess if we get an expiring we could flip it at the deadline.

Don't worry rev -- if I was trading Atkins in a way to save a team over $10 mil, you'd better believe I'd demand some decent assets.

Atkins, Cardinal and Wilkins for Simmons, Douglas-Roberts and Hassell to be done in 13 days from now sounds like an interesting option. At least to me.

Simmons's $11,2M expiring should be an interesting asset to be used during trade deadline if needed, Douglas-Roberts will only make $854,389 in 2010/11 (TO) and Minnesota would bring back Hassell.

Nets would do the trade because they are looking to save money and they save $5,189,086 in total after buying out Atkins.

I know we are not talking about star players but i think this a win-win deal.

Just wanted to mention that Sasha Pavlovic has been bought out, leaving only three players in the NBA that have partially guaranteed deals for 2009; Buckner and Gooden in DAL (who is already over the lux), and Chucky Atkins. There are still TPE's around though -- just few teams willing to take on salary.

DAL's decision to drop, rather than trade, Buckner demonstrates that they probably couldn't trade Buckner for anything that would be worth paying double for. MIN doesn't have that problem, so Atkins may be the only partially-guaranteed deal a team can acquire.

Teams can also cut into their 2010 cap space by saving money in trades within the 125% salary match as I have mentioned we should be considering. The other trade option is TPE's. Few teams are probably willing to give theirs up if they are over the lux, or so close that its use would put them over the threshold, and cost the team its lux share. Here's a list of the TPE's.

I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of magic Kahn pulls out of his hat.

I'm actually hoping for something fairly significant.

Dream scenario would be, and probably the only one I'd be willing to take 2010 money in...

crash for gomes + atkins + cha pick

but not gonna happen

How about going after Prince instead? I know he isn't the 3/4 you want but he is a great defender. For years it was unrealistic to think that the Pistons would trade Prince, but now that they are reshaping their squad with Stuckey, Gordon, and CV they might want to go younger at SF with Daye and Summers. Would Pekovic/Atkins/Cardinal be a decent starting point?

No reason to make a move for Wallace or Prince this year. We would only lose our top 10 pick -- a player, who by himself might be better and more value than Prince or Wallace two years from now. Let's keep the eye on 2011, or 2012. Be patient young Jedis.

Unless we are bringing in a one year player that will not cost us a lot or a young player who can grow with our team, then we should wait until at least next off season, maybe the trade deadline if a deal really knocks are socks off.

With so many of my HOU deals containing Barry floating around, I thought I'd post this piece of information here.

yahoo wrote: The Houston Rockets don't want Brent Barry around this year and are looking to trade him, according to Fox. If a decent deal can' be found, he'll likely retire and the Rockets will buy out the last year of his contract

Chucky Atkins is a great fit for HOU, because they are only about $5.5 mil over the 2009 lux, so clearing that salary would save them about $14 mil. Atkins would also be waived, helping HOU avoid buying out two of their 17 guaranteed contracts. To get under the lux, HOU would need a larger deal that allows them to take back less salary within the 125% + $100,000 salary match, but Atkins gets them halfway to the lux when they waive his partially guaranteed deal. Barry makes $2.06 mil.

Atkins 60-day wait is over on Friday, when he can be combined with other contracts.
