Corey Brewer is not even worth a late 2nd round pick. The fact that he hurt his knee did us a service, Rodney Carney is much better than Brewer ever will be.
So, you troll because you have a small, uh, partner and need to feel dominant at something? Can't you just buy a vet like all the other teeny weenies?

Brewer is a good defender, is young, is a high character guy, and spent the last year shooting 40% from 3. The consensus is, if he can shoot 40% from 3 he's a great asset. If he can't, we don't pick up his option. Assumptions are that his improvement in 3 point shooting is legit, but the sample size is too small to know for sure. That includes last year and summer league this year + reports from his off season workouts.

What makes you think he's incapable of improving? Oh wait, nevermind, the notion of a player improving after having played only one full season is clearly an NBA myth, and would be tantamount to some kind of voodoo witchcraft. Please.

I'm largely dubious of Brewer ever achieving the level associated with the 7th pick, but I don't see how his potential has entirely diminished after a relatively underwhelming rookie season. If I recall, his shooting percentages had improved quite nicely before he went down with the injury last season. If he bulks up a little and works on his jumper, I don't see why he can't be a solid player for us. Of course you're inclined to disagree, but I believe it's unfair to dismiss him as a bust so early in his career.

I would even say 36% from 3, tenacious D, tenacious hustle, finishing on the break. That, along with his charming smile, is all we really need from him.
Let's not forget, we have only seen him play under 1 coach in his young NBA career. I really think that if he stays healthy this year, he will benefit greatly from good coaching and shut a lot of critics up.

I can't speak for others but I see the potential to be a Bruce Bowen/Trevor Ariza/Tayshaun Prince (maybe) type player. Of course the key word is potential and this will be a big year for him to prove himself. He's not a superstud prospect but he can be a valuable wing defender that most successful teams seem to have. I also don't really get hung up on the draft position. That was a pretty week draft and he isn't that much worse than most of the players picked after him. I also don't believe in revisionist history.

Anyway, the only reason I'm penciling him in as the starter in the beginning is because of the real lack of other options. I think Sessions will likely start at PG so the SG options are Brewer, Ellington (unproven rookie) or Wilkins. But it will likely change anyway.

Agreed.

As far as Brewer, he was playing under quite possibly the worst head coach in the history of the NBA, and someone who rookies struggle underneath, Randy Twitman. Sounds like his option won't be picked up, so he'll have this year as an audition to see if he's worth bringing back next year. If he doesn't improve, no big deal. And to compare him to Carney? Carney is a 10th man on a decent team AT BEST.

We have all these people on this forum that are obsessed about Rodney Carney, Darius Songalia, Craig Smith, and Sebastian Telfair and how we lost them for expirings or nothing. Seriously, people? None of those four guys are impact or even quality rotational players on a contender. They're stop-gaps on losing teams. You don't built a contender by holding on to those kind of guys. None of them are even starters. Let's worry about our starting rotation first before we worry about the DEEP DEEP bench. Doing it the other way around slows progress, hurts our cap, and makes us a mediocre team that can't make the play-offs, or get a good draft pick. We become the Pacers or Bucks who are stuck in the middle. No thanks.

I think we should give R. McCants of the Lynx a shot, see if she can top his brother

Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
