Ricky proving the saysayers wrong in this game. I really liked his attitude even if the officials allowed him to play aggressively on defense. Only Turiaf and Traore came to play for France. Spain has regained its favourite status I guess

Diaw is disgusting btw, he did a double dribble on a possession to close the gap to 9 or 8 points lol.

De Colo will remember that buzzer beater tonight, it's frustrating winning all games and then you find the best team in quarter-finals.

Parker today was out of the game, 1/8 FG, 3 assists and 3 TOs in 32 minutes. In the other hand Gasol showed why he is the best player of the tournament: 11/13 FG, 9 rebounds, 3 blocks for 28 points in 28 minutes.

Parker was taken out of the game from the beggining by not even an average level backup point guard at the Euroleague level

Well to be honest it was more of a team effort on Parker than just Rubio alone ! Still, he played some good D, forcing parker into 2 or 3 defenders prepared for him. The real domination occured inside the paint as Pau ate the opposition alive.

I guess you didn't watch the game. Parker was playing against a team defense and they took away his penetrations. Parker will never be any good in such a situation. He can't hit even wide open shots from past 15 feet. Making it sound like Rubio shut him down only proves you didn't watch the game.

Still, it was definitely Rubio's best game of the tournament. Very unlikely he will have another game like that in the next game. He's 18 years old and the chances he has two good games in a row are pretty slim.

Who do you guys have on your Eurobasket 1st team?

Mine:

PG Vasilis Spanoulis (Tony Parker, Milos Teodosic)
SG Jaka Lakovic (Navarro)
SF Ersan Ilyasova
PF Erazem Lorbek
C Pau Gasol

It's real hard to choose with so many deserving players. I guess Tony Parker should really be on the first team as well.

of course it was a team effort, but I think that Ricky disrupted him, especially on the beginning. He was agressive on the first possesions and he took Parker out of the game from the start. Then the rest of the team helped him a lot.

And Pau looked like a DPOY, but lest not forget, that Turiaf is no All-Star, and he still got his points.

Unless your team makes it to the semifinals you should not be on the first team. So definitely take Parker off the list, especially how he played a horrible game against Spain.

So Spanoulis or Ilyasova should be coming off this list too as their teams play each other.

My list right now would be:

G Spanoulis
G Teodosic
F Ilyasova
F Lorbek
C Pau

Fernandez is getting close to making it also.

I agree with you. Maybe I would slide V-Span to SG and put Parker in for Lakovic to have 5 players from 5 different teams. BTW, Barcelona rules the Euro. So many players with past, present or future in Barça among the best of the tourney :)

It was Rubio's best game by far. But I don't think this is that impressive by Spain. To be honest France is a very overrated team with no offense and no shooting. And Parker is just not that great in FIBA basketball and never has been. The next opponent for Spain which is 50/50 Turkey or Greece will be a much more difficult opponent for Spain.

I definitely agree with Teodosic getting some love, as you can see that I edited my post and put him in brackets. I didn't think he was capable of playing this well just yet.

With Spain playing at this level I think they should win easy the last two matches, it doesn't matter the rival. The key was the game against Lithuania. When they were loosing in the 2nd quarter they started to run and they have continued since that moment -keep running Forrest-. Playing games with 60-70 points there are teams that can beat them, but when they make 80-90 points you better pray to make a perfect game because actually USA is the only team that can score so much points in FIBA basket on a daily basis.

Maybe Spain has the highest ceiling of any team on the Eurobasket, but you don't play every game at top level. Show some humility, please. Some people already forgot about '07 final. This is a sport, you have to win on the court not on paper.

To be perfectly honest, every opponent they face from now on will be a much better team than France.

Wow wow wow.. easy to say France was overrated or not that good after a game like that.
1 Pau was just sensationnal, really, no freaking way to defend him, congrats to him and to Spain

2 but Spain played a hell of a game today. We were the first defensive team and the last one unbeaten and they beat us, and I wouldn't say Tony is overrated.. 4 boards ( I think), 1 in steals for the tournament, best active scorer ( by that , I mean that Israeli boy doesn't count, he scored well, but they lost all their 3 games). He was France go to player in each of the game ( except Greece) and he responded every time. Steal, big shoot, assits, he was there every time. I know in your mind he's doesn't compare with Spanoulis, but still, shome some freaking respect ( but hey, it's coming from the guy who said Dirk was a ball stopper and all of that, so..)

3 I agree about Turkey, that would be a tough matchup for Spain.. but I mean, if they play like tonight, Greece gets the same beating we got.

4 good tournament by french all in all, at least if we're able to qualify for the WC, too bad Spain had a bad start and we got them

5 and to end, yes Rubio was good. team defence was great, just read an interview where Parker says it was a great way to defend him, but Rubio's influence was there.
