Re: Update:Drew feels great, no knee issues, training in ATL p.2
Honestly, i'm not sure what my expectation of Bynum is this season. I'm sick of being disappointed for the past couple seasons, so i'm reluctant to get excited about any Bynum news. I just want to see results on the basketball court and especially in the playoffs. I will say though, I'm hopeful that Artest will spark the rest of the Lakers to become defensive beasts throughout the season. That to me is the biggest contribution Artest can make...it's a mentality thing. A lot of things go on in practices and off the court that affect the final product that we see on the court. If Artest can inspire a defensive mentality in our players, we're going to be a 70+ win team, no question.

Sekou Smith of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution: "It's not often that rookie free agent center Garret Siler is forced to look up to someone on a basketball court. But that's exactly what happened to the 7-footer Wednesday when Los Angeles Lakers center Andrew Bynum cut through the door of the Hawks' practice facility to get a workout in at the John 'Beans' Beckett Invitational. Bynum and Siler matched up in two different games and Siler acquitted himself well, neither big man dominated the action -- that honor belonged to veteran pro Jerry Stackhouse (who has been on a tear this week on both ends of the floor against players much younger). Siler said he was just happy to have the chance to compete against a pro of Bynum's caliber. 'This is the best test for me to see guys like [Hawks center] Al Horford and [Bynum] out here,' Siler said. 'It helps mentally when you can say, 'hey, i'm d'ing this guy up and he plays for the world champions. He's got a ring.' So if you can hold your own going against and he's not just destroying you, hey, you must be doing something right.' "

Agree. I'm hoping Ron will be our intensity/defensive leader and convince the entire team to accept a defensive mentality the way KG did in Boston 2 years ago. Its scary to think of the things this team could accomplish if we were top 5 in defense too.
Thank you, Phil.

Meh propaganda, but Andrew better be a defensive beast this year.

LMAO at anybody who thinks Drew is really going to go full bore in a damn pick up game. I can see Stack doing it, hell he needs a job. As long as Drew comes back with an improved frame from the shoulders down I'm good with it.
In order to dominate next season, he'll have to be able to absorb contact with guys hanging on him and still be able to finish strong and hard.

+3
Bynum will be the all-star starter!!!
Duncan will complain what I meant to say is that I'm a center now... until Yao comes back then I'm a PF
Amare will complain to before the reporters remind him about channing frye???
Bynum will have some guns.

It will be sick if Drew becomes this team's defensive anchor. Someone to block shots, alter shots and rebound. He really wouldn't need to worry about offense since he can score at will in a way especially if he comes back stronger and quicker than last season.

To be honest, he already has a heavy effect on games where he plays enough minutes. Not just shot blocking, but purely altering shots. I remember seeing it and being happy that it was effective. The only issue is fouling.
