Lakers sign Mickael Gelabale

I for one am extremely excited about this. I felt that he had great athleticism and defense when he played for the sonics, so hopefully he can really help us this season

he was a solid defender for the sonics... I doubt he'll play much for us behind Artest and Luke if he makes the team.. but good insurance in case Luke gets injured

Yes, and the chances of Luke getting hurt or falling in the dog house along with Sasha, is good, so we need a few guys like this who can step in.

cool. Luke has his dad's chronic injury issues, so we might be able to use him.

I dunno about him ending up in the dog house... Phil loves Luke

Re: Lakers sign Mickael Gelabale
wow, love this pick up. I wanted him a couple years ago before he got injured. If he's healthy he's a low risk high reward type of guy. He could be our super cheap replacement for Ariza.

I'm thinking he's cut bait or they're going to do a 2fer1 trade soon.. thought they wanted to go in w/ 1 available roster spot?

From LakersBlog/LA Times
9/18/09
http://lakersblog.latimes.com/lakersblo ... kers-.html
Don't go upping the opening day roster from 13 to 14 quite yet, but Jorge Sierra of Hoopshype.com reports the Lakers have reached an agreement with former Sonics swingman Mickael Gelabale that will give the 6'7" Frenchman, 26, a chance to make the team out of training camp on a "make-good contract" (meaning there's no commitment financially until he makes the squad).
His knees are good since he had injured his ACL in 2008.
He is an excellent defender.
He is: 6-7, 215lbs, 26 yrs old, 2 yrs exper.

Re: Lakers sign Mickael Gelabale
He won't make the team, if he injured his ACL in 08 he's at least another year away from being totally healthy. I'm not going to get overly excited on a dude fresh off a busted knee.

I would have preferred McCants, will this guy even make the team? Hopefully it does mean a two for one though, Farmar, Morrison for Duhon.

As to Mickael Gelabale...he was injured somewhere around March 2008...so that's about 18 months ago from now.
You really think he won't be ready? He already played in the D-League six months ago...how long does it take to recover from ACL?

I like the potential roster addition. Mickael Gelabel seems like a guy who has something to prove coming off a tough injury.
I would also like to see this French guy on our Lakers team next season.

Really miss seeing his bench antics.

Some one has to carry Kobes bags. No draft picks. So he will be here in camp and then be on the wire as a player that got released.

If Gelabele makes the roster then Morrison will most likely be traded

That would have been awesome Lamar & Rashard fighting over Khloe Kardashian...
RM: "Lamar whaddup dog that's my girl bro, we were just off and on, but we're back on now"
LO: "Nah man that's my big girl, damn, we're gettin' married yo, get ya own bra!
RM: "Nah dog that trunk fits, she's mine." I'll tell you what I really like this girl, I'll give you my store for her."
LO: "Your store?"
RM: "Yeah man, my store for Khloe."
LO: "What kind of business is it?"
RM: "Dude you'll like it trust me." It's "The Sweet Factory"
LO: "Shi*, done son...sold!"

Wow, good pick up. I really think he could make this roster and provide some useful minutes off the bench. He's a scrappy player, that doesn't mind doing the dirty work. Good pick up.

As far as Gelabale is concerned, for a guy like him who relied on athletic ability it could take a while on the mental level and physical exertion. I remember when Rod Woodson when he played for the Steelers, when he injured his knee he said it took him 2 years to get all the way back. Problem was he was with the Ravens when he "got back".
