Nickeling and diming at its finest.

Post#1 » by tha_rock220 » Fri Sep 11, 2009 8:37 pm

I bought buzzfest tickets today for a group of friends. I got online and in addition to the ticket, I got charged an $11 convenience fee and a $5.30 processing charge. Call me an idealist, but when did everyone's goal be to separate me from as much of my money as possible???

Since before you were born.

I'm shocked you got off so cheap.

Hmm. Such a wise investment. I too enjoy spending glorious amounts of cash to see a show performed by extremely mediocre and talentless "musicians". It's one of my favorite things in life.

Of course, nothing beats spending $10 for a 16 oz. beer at said show. At least if I drink enough of them I can forget how horrible the so-called "music" is.

$15/head for The 5 Blind Boys of Alabama at the House of Blues. I'm headed there in 20 minutes.

No processing fee. No convenience charge. And no delayed realization that I have horrible taste in music.

The focus of your thread is not capitalism run amok. Not even close. The focus, as yet unrealized, is God's judgement on white people with crappy taste in music.

I saw Pink Floyd at Winterland in '71......tickets were $4...total. They did the show in surround sound with a 30 min version of Echos.

Anyhow....enjoy Buzzfest.

Pre-Ticketmaster.
1971 CPI: 39.8, 2009 CPI: 215.834

Expected price from inflation: about 5x = $20, + Ticketmaster monopoly charges = $33
Actual ticket price: 37.50, $13.45 = $50
A bit higher than should be expected, but the equivalent of a $2.30 hike on your ticket. (ignoring ticketmaster hike, which would have brought it to about $9)

Nothing at Buzzfest even halfway compares to Floyd, though.

You got off easy. I recently bought a ticket pre-sale for $30, supposedly at a discount, and paid around $50-$60 after all the fees.
I'm sorry I haven't been funny. I am not a comedian. I am Lenny Bruce.

Wow. You are an amazingly lucky bastard, seriously. They are easily my favorite band ever. I never got a chance to see them live because the real Floyd(not the phony non-Roger version) broke up right after I was born in '79. Not that they didn't still make good music and put on an amazing show after he left, but I still never did get to see them. I did get to see Roger twice though, which was great.

But yea, you got to see them right around the time of Meddle when they were really amazing. So lucky. Did they play Fearless at all I wonder? I bet they did, and I am jealous.

Ahh if only the majority of bands these days were remotely worth a crap.

You'll agree with him at some point after you graduate high school. Everyone does, it's inevitable.

Other than AIC in the lineup... I don't know who most of them are. I barely ever listen to the radio. I wouldn't mind seeing AIC though, but my point wasn't that I gave a crap or not about Buzzfest... it was more his uppity attitude about the whole thing. Is he a music critic? Yes or no, why would anyone care what his taste in music is over anyone elses? The post wasn't about the music, it was about purchases that try and squeeze as much as they can out of you. A "convenience fee" ? It is convenience for both parties. Why don't they just tell you that you used a Discover card to pay for it, and since they charge more for their services, we are going to need to charge you triple that cash back bonus they give back to you.. plus a bit more.

His post wasn't insightful, nor did he offer up any information about what "real" music is.. or was. If he listens to KODA, KRBE, or KKBQ instead of the Buzz then I'm pretty sure nobody would care about what he considers "music." So he **** on someone elses tastes, while being a coward and not offering anything to **** on in return. But I found something anyways.

= )

My original post(while I admit it may have gone off the topic a tad!) was a sarcastic, cynical response to exactly what the OP was commenting on: the insane prices that are charged for tickets + expenses to pretty much any major event these days, especially major sporting events or concert festivals(hell, even smaller shows tend to be outrageously priced these days). Just tonight I would have loved to have gone to see the Butthole Surfers at the House of Blues, which is on one hand an amazing venue to visit, but on the other hand is incredibly expensive.

If in my drunken rant against the evil bitch whore we call Capitalism I somehow offended somebody, or somehow inferred that my musical taste is superior, then I apologize(although I stand by my belief that every single band playing in said festival is complete crap other than AiC, who at the time of my original post I didn't know was playing in this, and whom I was obsessed with all throughout the 90's, even if their new album is mediocre compared to their glory days).

If you're curious about my personal musical taste I'd be happy to share them with you(if you read my other post you'd know I am a big Floyd fan), but suffice to say I do not listen to any radio or watch MTV, and have not in many years(for reasons I hope are obvious).

At no time did I *CENSORSHIPHERE* on someone elses taste(at least not intentionally). I was under the impression this was an internet forum where people discuss their opinions and therefore expressed mine(even if it's horrible!).

Also, neener neener name-calling inserted here internet bleh blah bluh. Never forget through my sarcasm or madness, I love you all, even if I don't.

And yes, Go Rockets INDEED....

...(and Texans)...

...and tits.

Once he started talking about God's judgment I completely blanked his entire post out of my head. I might not have liked your post but I could tell that there could be a discussion about it. Once someone starts in with religion though, it is best to understand where that topic will take you... nowhere. Religious and nonreligious people shouldn't talk about religion, same goes for Democrats and Republics talking about politics... there is a reason they say those two subjects shouldn't be at the dinner table.
