Week 4 polls...USC out of top 10, UW in top 25

AP Top 25

* 1. Florida (55)
* 2. Texas (2)
* 3. Alabama (3)
* 4. Mississippi
* 5. Penn St.
* 6. California
* 7. LSU
* 8. Boise St.
* 9. Miami (FL)
* 10. Oklahoma
* 11. Virginia Tech
* 12. USC
* 13. Ohio St.
* 14. Cincinnati
* 15. TCU
* 16. Oklahoma St.
* 17. Houston
* 18. Florida St.
* 19. BYU
* 20. Kansas
* 21. Georgia
* 22. North Carolina
* 23. Michigan
* 24. Washington
* 25. Nebraska

Not too many surprises except for Washington jumping to 24 after only 1 quality win over a team that probably was way over rated to begin with. Oh well, it's their job to now prove that they are worthy of that #24 ranking.

USA Today

*1. Florida (59)
*2. Texas
*3. Alabama
*4. Penn St.
*5. Mississippi
*6. California
*7. LSU
*8. Boise St.
*9. Oklahoma
*10. USC
*11. Ohio St.
*12. Virginia Tech
*13. Miami (FL)
*14. TCU
*15. Cincinnati
*16. Oklahoma St.
*17. Georgia
*18. North Carolina
*19. Kansas
*20. BYU
*21. Missouri
*22. Michigan

*25. Florida St.
This space needs to be filled with a new sig...but I'm too lazy to make one.

Miami is nowhere near the 9th best team in the nation.

4 of the top 7 teams from the SEC...that can't last.

Interesting that Ohio State plays their best game in years and actually loses ground in the AP poll.

No way that Cincinnati isn't a top 10 team. If they were an SEC team they'd be no worse than #5.

That's probably the biggest divergence between the two polls that I can recall.

If Cincinnati was in the SEC their schedule wouldn't suck.

Huh? Cincy already played their toughest conference games at Rutgers and dominated them. They went to Oregon State and thoroughly outplayed them. They get a decent Fresno team this week.

What exactly has Florida done? They romped on two cupcakes and played down to Tennessee. Ole Miss hasn't played a team in the top 100 yet, nor has Penn State. Cincy has shown me a lot more than either of those teams against better competition.

Florida won the NC last year. Cincinnati is a good team, I think #14 is about where they should be right now, but the SEC gets help in the rankings because they play in the toughest conference. If Cincinnati was in the SEC their tough conference game would be Florida instead of Rutgers. Their "easy" conference game would be South Carolina instead of Syracuse.

It's really too soon in the season to pass judgment on rankings.

There are some impostors in the top 10, some in the top 20 that eventually will finish in the top ten, and a handful that don't belong anywhere.

Cinci has played better competition "so far".

WVU and USF now look pedestrian, Rutgers isn't that good, Louisville looks like it's still a mess, which leaves only Pitt to likely challenge them.....and you know DW will find a way to blow a couple of games.

One of the impostors.

Cal is another.
