Would you trade Kobe now at 31 for a 25 year old Lebron?

Post#1 » by JordansBulls » Mon Sep 21, 2009 12:29 pm

I sort of asked this question in the past with different people. I asked Spurs fans would they trade Tim Duncan now for Dwight Howard or would they be loyal to Duncan for what he did for their franchise and keep him no matter what.

Simply put in essence this is very similar. If the Cavs offered you Lebron James and he signed a 10 year deal extension with the Lakers would you trade Kobe for him or would you remain loyal to Kobe no matter what?

How exactly does that apply? MJ wasn't 31 nor was Kobe 25 at the same time. MJ was 35 and Kobe was 19.

A better question for me would have been would I have traded a 34 year old MJ in 1997 for a 25 year old Shaq the same year. Or would I have traded a 35 year old MJ in 1998 for a 21 year old Duncan who hadn't played a NBA game yet?

You post a hypathetical trade that will probably NEVER happen...
But taking Kobe at 25 for MJ at 31, is just too far out of the realm of reality for you?

To answer your question, at first I said 'of course' to myself, but then I started thinking about LeBron's maturity level right now, and I started wondering if he didn't still have a ways to go before he's at Kobe's level of dedication.

I'm a Laker fan.... I'm a fan of Kobe because he's a laker... Not the other way around.

He becomes the enemy as soon as he leaves.

But this team was built around him and is only successfull because of his superhuman dedication and desire to win. Guys like Gasol, and Bynum and Lamar, and Artest... Just don't have the fire to push themselves to win it all without Kobe burning them up night in and night out...

LeBron is more physically gifted, but he isn't as skilled or as mentally tough just yet... It's close, but he's not there yet....

And I think there's a good chance if you plopped him onto a winning team where he didn't have to work as hard, right now, he may never be as driven as Kobe....

So I'd take Lebron in a heartbeat, if there was some magical way for us to retain Kobe for a couple years to push him...

Also LeBron beats the crap out of himself night in and night out... He didn't have Shaq during his formative NBA years to cushion him... I think there's a good chance, LeBron isn't as spry at 31 as Kobe is... So it may not be that great a trade as you might think in the long run...

ha ha! my question was a trick question and you fell hard for it.

in your eyes Kobe at any age will never be better than Jordan at his worse. we get it. and yes I will not answer your question because you are just gathering amunition to use on us "Kobe homers" in the GB.

See this is the kind of ish you like to do every chance you get. Post different names different boards different teams, but bait names that will draw fans of those players or teams into arguments with the boards your posting on.

But to answer you. Helllllllllllllll Noooooooooooooo. Skip Lebron.

I'm a Laker fan first, and even though I think LeBron is going to eventual win a ring and remain great; my answer is no. Bryant has been in LA for all his career and has ranked up some legendary accomplishments. That and 4 championships rings with the franchise. His career isn't over yet, either. He's Loved all around the world and in Los Angeles more then James ever would. Fans of LA also have a chance to see something real special these next few years. And witness how many more championships he can lead the Lakers before his Laker days are up. Why ruin a great story? No, thanks.

There you go that was his ulterior motive all alone. JordansBulls doesn't care what we think as far as the well being of our franchise, who the hell does he think he's fooling ?

Way to lay the trap snaq ! I can almost guarantee he won't come back here and try to clarify himself.

So funny.

I didnt even read Snaqs post or anyone else above me. I was actually on the Cs board when I saw this same exact post but with Pierce and Melo as the trade baits, and I said to myself "Here we go with babyjordan and his weak arse baits", then when I came on here I saw the same post with Kobe and Lebron.

But Snaq is money on babyjordans intentions.............. Haaaaaaaaaaaa haaaaaaaaaaaaaa....... Saddddddddddd.

Babyjordan needs to move on since everyone here knows his weak arse baiting game to well.

Bye bye.

Dont take what Im posting personal, your a bro and I know your a Laker fan, but why would anyone trade a proven player like Kobe that has givin his all to this franchise, his fans both good and bad, he has gone through the ups and downs as well as his own personal issues and has givin this franchise (with the help of others) 4 titles for a kid who has done ish for his own franchise.

Kobe is in his prime right now, Lebron still growing. I honeslty dont think Lebron will ever be on the same level as players like Magic, Bird, M.J and even Kobe. Im putting Kobe above Magic, M.J etc, Kobe's not even close to those players, but he is by far wayyyyyyyy above Lebron, thats for dam sure, so if I had a choice I would still role with Kobe.

How the hell is it a bait? It is a simple question on if you would be loyal to the player that has done soo much for your franchise or if you are more about having a much longer window of winning titles. I posted the same thread regarding Duncan and Dwight Howard and if you were the Spurs organization what you would do. I posted the same thing on if you were a Bulls fans would you have traded MJ in 1998 for Shaq that same year to have a longer window to win and I also had an option if you would have traded MJ in 1998 for an unproven Tim Duncan at age 21?

The subject is more or less would you remain loyal to a player that has remained loyal to your franchise.

I don't think the market that Kobe gets can be replaced by Lebron. So in terms of that and stuff, no. In terms of basketball skills, it's tempting, but no. You remain loyal to Kobe a guy who has helped and carried this franchise for nearly 10 years+. I'm sure Lebron would be nice, but Kobe is kind of irreplaceable. As a fan, I don't mind if we have a couple down years when Kobe gets much older if it meant winning alot before he reaches that point. So, if the Lakers can get maybe 2-4 more championships, I don't mind if we're on some down years after that.

The good thing is that the Lakers are still pretty young, and Bynum may become a great player capable of leading this team.
