NICE! but Bowen would have been better...
BUT HEY. Here is a thought: I think it is still possible for Bowen to come back after trade deadline. JUST A THOUGHT! I know he retired and all but i think that situation would be ideal for both, Spurs and Bowen.

Do the Spurs still have Marcus Williams?
He is a forward, 6-7, 207lbs, 22yrs old.

He has an unguaranteed contract. I am guessing he will be cut to make room for Bogans.

This kinda came out of nowhere but its a great addition. He'll give us some depth and some Manu injury insurance. He'll also fit in well, he's a good shooter and a good gritty defender.

Spurs Will Sign Bogans:
Spurs Getting Bogans: According to Chris Tomasson of AOL Fanhouse, free agent forward Keith Bogans will sign a one-year contract for the veteran's minimum with the San Antonio Spurs. With six years of NBA experience that would mean Bogans would make $1,033,342 this season, with $825, 497 of that paid re-imbursed from the league.
The Spurs would be the fifth team for Bogans, who has previously played for the Orlando Magic, Charlotte Bobcats, Houston Rockets, and Milwaukee Bucks. While splitting time last season with the Magic and Bucks Bogans averaged 5.6 points and 3.1 rebounds in 65 games.
The Spurs already have 15 players under contract

, so it looks like someone on the bottom of the pecking order - like Malik Hairston or Marcus Williams - could soon find themselves on the waiver wire. Whomever it is, that's a nice upgrade for the Spurs. Bogans is a good defender who has range out to the three-point line and should be able to break into the lineup. He could play the role that was filled the last couple seasons by Ime Udoka and maybe even provide some of what Bruce Bowen used to bring.

Is there something we're not being told about one of our Big 3's health status? Seems an out of the blue move. Manu insurance for sure.

Re: Keith Bogans to Spurs
definatly is Manu insurance, but i think its a pro-active move rather than any concerns. Manu unfortunatly is far more likely to suffer an injury at this point than go for a whole season.
Hopefully this is a 'Just in case move,' rather than Manu's rehab isn't as good as advertised.

Well, I don't think any of us expected another signing before camp. I think Bogans can really help with the rotation and just as everybody else all I hope for is health for our top players.

Re: Keith Bogans to Spurs
Well the good thing is that we have a veteran and a guy who can spell bench minutes. Say, if Roger Mason or Michael Finley is injured, having Bogans playing their minutes is better than having Hairston or Marcus Williams. But is this something we should be excited about? It's not likely Bogans will even break the rotation. It's looking like Finley and Roger Mason will be our main backups. So Bogans will be a 3rd stringer.
I would say that I'd rather have us bring back Udoka but him or Bogans doesn't really matter because, as i said, I don't think they'll make much impact this season.

Re: Keith Bogans to Spurs
I love this signing, and out of nowhere indeed, didn't even think of him
Another adequate 3PT shooter, has decent experience, some smarts, no slouch defensively, tough as nails, young, better offensively than Udoka and Bruce. Only down-side is he isn't one of the bigger wing-men in the league, length-wise (but isn't thin).
Always liked Bogans since he was a Bobcat - nice signing for bench depth!

Seems like the spurs are making insurance move after insurance move. First Ratliff and now Boguns. Where is all this money coming from. Seems very un spurs like. Don't get me wrong I am happy we are getting so deep but just strange.

Re: Keith Bogans to Spurs
This move has to mean that a trade is brewing. Even without Hairston and Williams (who the Spurs front office is very impressed with) there are too many wing players who deserve minutes.
I'm still pulling for Hairston to make the roster. If a trade does go down, then I'll be a fan of the signing. I think bogans has the ability to be a plug in starter in case of injury, his experience and defense would allow for it.

Re: Keith Bogans to Spurs
The Spurs are not exactly known to be making big trades during the middle of the season, but I do feel this is one year that we might do that.
Depends on several things.
If Blair is dependable enough to be getting 20 minutes a game, that's when Bonner becomes expendable.
And if Finley sucked or someone else step up (such as Bogan or an improved Roger Mason), then Finley is expendable.
Depending on what our biggest weakness is by the middle of the season, we could try to clear that up via trade. But one of those 2 things will have to happen. If we were counting on Finley playing 30 minutes again and Bonner playing 20 minutes because Blair isn't dependable enough to play more than 10 minutes, then there is no way we're trading Bonner and Finley.
With teams gearing up for the 2010 market, it's gonna be known by February who's got a good chance in the playoffs and who's gonna suck. That's when a lot of good players will be available in exchange for expirings in an effort to open up EVEN MORE cap room.

They are spending all the money they didn't spend in previous seasons. Don't expect this to repeat ever again. This a one season only. WIN NOW OR GIVE UP!

Re: Keith Bogans to Spurs
Did someone let Mr. Holt know that we are in a recession. Imagine if this light bulb would have come on before we gave up Scola for little to nothing to a divisional rival. Actually now that I think about it Scola is probably the reason why we are spending all that cash. I just hope we save enough for one more good signing...Splitter. If he can come over next year we have a very solid core to build for the future after a championship or two.

Re: Keith Bogans to Spurs
Are you asking about the money for Ratliff and Bogans? They're on vet minimum... Like 70-80% of the minimum is paid by the league... They don't really cost us much compared to the others..
