Game 2: Seahawks at 49ers 1pm pacific

After a week 1 shutout victory over the woeful Rams the Seahawks are ready to lower Mike Singletary pants again and hand the 9ers a spanking. A win means the division lead and maybe, just maybe some media respect(I doubt it).

As a side note: Many predicted the Hawks to pick Michael Crabtree in the draft, but teams picking O-linement allowed Aaron Curry to slide to Seattle. Thaaaank God for Curry. I don't think there's any need to chronicle the non-journey of the Mighty Egomaniac who hasn't signed yet.

The 49ers are looking better than they have in recent history. The Seahawks look like one of the most improved teams and also an untested commodity after routing a team that USC would likely beat. Seattle won't have the benefit of the 12th man this game so this should be a better indication of their consistency as a team.

Injury Updates:

Seattle is missing Leroy Hill and will replace him with Will Herring at linebacker. Lofa is expected to play along with TJ Houshmandzadah (back spasms) and Branch has chronic lameness. The other big news is Walt Jones and Chris Spencer being back at practice. Depending on how their conditioning and health hold up they may even play.

San Fran is getting healthy at WR with Brandon Jones back to practice and DE Sopaga also back.

Things to watch:

1-Frank Gore was the focal point of a 26min press conference with Jim Mora found here
Gore was held in check week 1 vs Arizona and Mora feels they will make an extra effort to get him involved against us this week. Again our beefed up line goes against a quality running back after success vs Jackson last week.

2-Will Herring to start. He looked good in game 1, he's aggressive and athletic, but he's also had a career full of injuries over his first 2 years. Hopefully he looks good and healthy for the entire absence of our Franchise un-franchised LB. I would expect the 9ers run game to try to attack him. Speaking of Linebackers- it should be fun to watch Curry's development and schoolyard bully attitude Ala Ray Lewis. Also hoping Lofa is really healthy because that's a guy that's hard to replace.

3-Sene-Cat The coaches promise to make use of Wallace's talents and keep throwing more wrinkles to the offense with some duel QB looks. Will we see some gadget plays?

4-Two interesting things about week 1 for the 49's. They were ineffective on 1st down runs and they gave up a ton of yards per reception in the pass game. Of course, the reception stat could be misleading considering the Cards have great receivers.

5-QB pressure. Last week we were all over the QB. and regardless of sack total. we bothered Bulger. This really helped out our secondary issues and we'll need pressure again. Wilson and Lucas were good last week and Babs didn't give up the old Russell bone-headed long plays, but they also had the benefit of QB pressure. I believe stopping the early run will be crucial so we don't end up in a guessing game off balance.

Predictions-

I think we're underrated because we're off the radar, the 49ers are media darlings, and I'm a homer 8-) That being said, I said we win 27-14.

This would be a BIG win for us, put us up 2 games in our division already, give us a little breathing room headed into some more difficult games. But let's face it, we suck on the road, though this is west coast road, rather than east-of-the-Mississippi road.

Still, the 49ers are coming off a great road win, are returning for their first home game, and we've got key players down to injuries. For these reasons, I say we lose a close one to the 49ers. Hope not, but that's where my money would be. Of course, I'd love to be wrong about this.

Down 13-10 at the break.

Hasselbeck looks like he hurt himself pretty badly at the end of the 2nd Q. Patrick Willis came in and popped him in the back as Hass was scrambling near the goal line. Wallace came in and threw a short TD pass with 22 seconds to play.

I thought the 49ers looked better than we did for the most part. The difference in the game so far was Frank Gore's 78 yard TD run. Damn, that hurt.

Hass is out for the game. So is Locklear. So is Tatupu. Not to mention Mebane, W. Jones, and Branch before the game even started. Gore has 200+ yards rushing with nearly a whole half of football left.

I hate this ****.

Well, I think:

a- our running game, or at least Julius Jones sucks(or rather is not starter quality). Forsett should maybe start, but we need a quality rb.

b-injuries like this again? OMG! what the...?

c-not happy with Mora's over focus on Gore ending up putting 9 in the box and giving up so many long runs. I'd rather have played the 49'ers straight and taken some lumps but not 200 f'n yards.

D- is for Damn you Broncos!

looking at Matt's injury play i'm kinda surprised where he dove. If he stays on his feet he scores and is probably fine, too. There's a good look here.

The injury thing is making it so damn hard to focus closely, or emotionally invest much in the Hawks now. It's like last year. Rampant injuries, giving up these ridiculously long runs, and some play calling that leaves me shaking my head.

I have to ask the question. Are we a poorly conditioned team? Do we not condition our players right? The "snake-bite" thing is starting to fall short for me as concerns injuries. I know they're part of the game, but this is ridiculous. We have to address this issue. Why have we been suffering from the injury bug way more than most other teams have been?

A few things are getting confirmed for me. We need a QB and LT and RB in next year's draft. Don't think for a minute that these shouldn't be our top priorities. Hasselbeck goes down AGAIN. Game over. Right there. We need a new franchise QB. The offensive line sucked. We need a first round pick there, most importantly at LT. And when is Ruskell going to pick a RB in one of the first 3 rounds?

It's not the losing. It's the way we are losing. So frustrating.

PS>The hijacking of the RealGM site the last month has just about deep-sixed me as a poster here. Getting real tired of the admins not taking such complaints about the site seriously in recent months.

You talking about that browser hijack where you suddenly get redirected to something that looks like a malware checkup (which, I can only assume, is malware itself)? That's happened to me twice that I can remember. And yes, it's annoying as hell and realgm should not be allowing that to happen. I'm not aware of anything being left on my PC after closing my browser, though.

Exactly. For quite awhile they kept refusing to believe it was THEM that was infected. I really b*itched at them in the mod forum about it. For the longest time they refused to take the necessary measures to address it. Finally...they closed down all but a couple of their ads the other day, and it *seems* to have solved the problem as of now.

Funny though, I kept insisting to them it was on their end, and probably coming from one of their advertisers. *crickets*

Whoa, that was RealGM? That happened to me multiple times. I think I have a bunch of viruses now, or that's what my computer told me. Every other time it pops up, I just turn my computer off manually so I don't hafta deal with that crap. Kinda makes me lose respect for RealGM if it is true.

You're probably not infected by it. But it does tend to prompt warnings from various protection software you may have. It doesn't seem to be "airborne", at least if you're well protected; but it does show that RealGM has been attacked, and it certainly makes navigating the site a real nuisance, and you never know that if they could be breached like this, what more may come?

Bulltalk is correct. nowadays good browsers and security try to sandbox you and they don't get you until they've convinced you with parlor tricks that you need a fix... the fix is the problematic file or registry change.

I've also contemplated our conditioning as a team. Two coaches, supposedly a much more vigorous conditioning this year, and the Falcons were not injury bitten. I don't think it's as simple as that.

let's break it down

Wilson Locklear ankes.... it happens ankles aren't conditioning

Hill, Lofa, Spencer torn muscles... this seems like conditioning or perhaps bad luck

Trufant back... either genetic or legit contact injury

Branch- is a broken down gimp... don't care what his deal is.

Walt- last years knee, he's old, and microfracture is nuts on people

Matt- aging, beat up by poor protection and holding it alot. Rib was a hard hit at a bad angle.

I have to think this is mostly just horrible horrible luck. Worse luck might be the Broncs good fortune so far.

I know it sucks to have it happen so early or at all, but I'm just going to keep watching for now. Why-
I'm an fan, I can't help it(yet). I pull for Seneca, I think he could do some things and prove himself. I want to see Walt get back on the train and prove he can do it and do it and do it. Curry has flashed greatness but it's not bestowed and he has growin to do and things to prove. I think he will. Butler & Carlson- I think they are a core we can build upon on offense regardless of the holes we may have. I pull for the underdog. The lean years before Gasol were kinda fun for me as a Laker fan, somewhat because I knew ownership knew how to build and had been there and we'd have the last laugh, but partially because I just like underdogs.

The Seahawks travel farther than any team, they get little or no coverage, they have a dedicated fanbase, and they are my family's team. If I was close enough to screw my voice up at Qwest I would. I may even fly up to do so(after my vocal parts are done on the album).

Oh and Bull- I'll talk to the admins. I'd be surprised if they can ignore me since they know what I do for a living and who for. I'm kinda busy but I might even offer my services as an internet security officer. Hang in there. If they don't get hip quick, I'll be out with you.
