Suns Practices

Post#1 » by nashrambler13 » Tue Sep 22, 2009 11:18 pm

i know i'm probably not the only one to see/read this (ESPN, azcentral) but i thought it deserved recognition:

Coro wrote: Phoenix Suns point guard Steve Nash returned to Phoenix to take part in scrimmages with his teammates and his presence paid immediate dividends to his squad.

Paul Coro of the Arizona Republic blogged that Nash's team went undefeated.

"Nash, Jared Dudley, Lou Amundson, Channing Frye (hitting game-winners and more 3-pointers) and Alando Tucker made quick 4-0 work of the series of 20-point games. The opposing crew had some rotation with more players available. The crew that lost the last game had Amare Stoudemire, Taylor Griffin, Grant Hill, Greg Ostertag and Carlos Powell."

Coro also reported that Leandro Barbosa should be back in Phoenix on Wednesday and Goran Dragic will return later in the week.

Nash's team is obviously better, but the other team had rested players. I'd totally be cool with adding both of those players- Powell is one of the best in the DLeague, he's got long arms, and is a decent passer/rebounder. Ostertag could bring his defensive presence and hieght to our team. maybe i just really like seeing unfarmiliar faces in the court.

Channing Frye is looking good... i think he'll get good stats w/ Nash- about 12 and 6 or so.

Powell played for our NZ team the Breakers in the Aussie NBL and was a BEAST. Supreme athlete and he plays physical...

Ostertag...hmm...would he be so bad? The dude's big enough to knock people down and not be intimidated

Isnt Ostertag like 40 years old and notorious for being on the receiving end of posterization?

Ostertag is only 36, and should be fresh as he retired 4 years ago. lol

On and off the court...

As the Lakers were leaving the Forum court from their shootaround and the Jazz players were arriving for theirs, O'Neal and Ostertag exchanged angry words. The 7-foot-1, 315-pound O'Neal then apparently slapped Ostertag, 7-2 and 280 pounds, hard enough to knock him to the floor.

Are you serious?! Ostertag? I thought it was just talk about him wanting to make a come back. Geez. Well I guess it can't be all bad. It'll just be like pre-Porter Shaq. Shot-blocking, defense, no easy buckets.

I dunno, I guess on a min contract, he can't hurt?

If the guy is there to come in and lay some beef on other bigs, discourage layups, rebound and outlet, fine. I'd rather see Powell get the shot though -

I would love it if Greg Ostertag was on this team simply for the sheer hilarity of it. And sadly, he'd probably be able to defend Duncan better than anybody on our team, even though he's ancient and out of shape :(

I hope they do sign Ostertag, so we can get back to the glory days of mediocre Suns basketball with amazingly talented players such as: Luc Longley and Joe Klein.

A report out of Boston is stating that point guard Dan Dickau will attend Phoenix Suns training camp after turning down an invitation with the Celtics.

Dickau would presumably compete with Goran Dragic to back up veteran point guard Steve Nash. Dickau did not play in the NBA last season after attending Golden State Warriors training camp and spent his year in Europe.

Dickau has career averages of 5.8 points and 2.5 assists a game in six NBA seasons.

If Ostertag can get in okay shape I think he'd be more valuable to us than Swift, Dickau and Powell. Swift was disappointing last year and I'd rather see Dragic get all the minutes he can. We simply do not have left over minutes at SF for Powell.

I want Ostertag to take up space in the paint some minutes of each game preventing us from getting over powered. He should get more minutes in the slow games. He's not going to run with the rest of the team like Steven Hunter did. I do not want him to shoot from the outside like those other token big stiffs we've had in recent years. Take the hard foul and push people around instead.

Edit: How about taking a look at Mark Blount?

If Ostertag cant move he is useless, when he retired he couldnt move. You mean to tell me he is quicker on defense than Shaq right now, because if not then he is going to have the same friggin problem on defense on the pick and roll like Shaq did witch is what killed us on defense. Hell he would give us the same defensive problems, with maby a quarter (if luckey) of the scoring that Shaq brought, NO BUENO :noway: you might as well bring back sorry @$$ Oliver Miller if all you want is someone to lay a body on people and hard fouls. Wasn't Mark Blount just cut?

He wasn't cut or waived, he was given permission to seek a trade, but at 7 mil a yr I don't think he will fit into our budget

Ostergag has been seduced by the lack of good big men in the game today. Look around... it is the weakest position fielded... and he probably feels he is as good as 1/4 of the starters out there and more than 1/2 the back ups. He may be right. But he is not for us. I w/ Foreal and the rest who say NO to GO
What ? Me Worry ?
