Would you trade a 33 year old Duncan for a 24 yr old Dwight

Moderator: G R E Y

Would you trade Tim Duncan now at 33 for a 24 year old Dwight Howard?

A) I would maintain loyalty to my teams Franchise Player that has brought us Multiple Titles

B) I would trade our teams Franchise Player for another Young Franchise Player to win more titles

Would you trade a 33 year old Duncan for a 24 yr old Dwight

Post#1 » by JordansBulls » Mon Sep 21, 2009 5:07 pm

Hypothethical Situation: If you were the San Antonio Spurs and the Orlando Magic offered Dwight Howard (24) for Tim Duncan (33), would you accept?

This could be a torn situation here.

A) If you are the Spurs do you maintain loyalty to your star player that is aging that has brought your franchise 4 titles as the best player on the team for a young guy who is a beast now who is 24 in Dwight Howard?

or

B) Trade your Star Player that is your Franchise Player in attempts to get another star franchise player that is much younger in aim to win titles?

I say this because Parker is still young and a Dwight and Parker duo could end up winning titles for the Spurs for years.

Are you more a guy who is loyal to your Franchise Player that has brought your team success or the type that would jump on whatever continues to make the franchise more successful?

I want to see what Spurs fans would do in this case.

**** all this hypothethical situations. Seriously, it is bad enough to see this board inactive but we need 2 consecutive threads about trading Duncan?

WTF. Spurs made some key moves to compete this season and all we can do is to talk about **** hypothethical situations with Duncan being traded.

Sorry if i sound rude but this is a joke.

Nah. Ask me in two years and I might change my mind. But even though Howard is undeniably great, I was unimpressed with him in the playoffs, particularly on the offensive end.

But yeah, I'm with Marc, kind of a stupid and unrealistic scenario.

I'm with Marc and TK on this one, its a stupid and inrealistic scenario. I really don't think the Spurs would trade Duncan.

No. Tim Duncan has done so much for this organization, he deserves to be one of the few players to stay with one team and retire with the Spurs.

Any trade offer that involves Duncan, I think the Spurs should let Duncan know. To me, it's not going to be about what the Spurs want to do. It'll be more about what Duncan wants to do. If he wants to move, then he'll be traded. If he wants to stay, even if it's for Lebron James, then he'll stay.

I just don't see this happening...

Spurs: Tim, we've traded you to Orlando
Tim: NO!
Spurs: F you! you're going to Orlando...
Tim: Me and Dwight are gonna kill you when we meet in the season
Spurs: For Dwight!
Tim: No!
Spurs: F you!

Lol No way spurs trade Duncan. I see him as working with the team much longer than he's a player.

Lol at convo ^^^^

Only on my NBA Live 2010. Thats of course after I trade for Duncan back for spare parts and some draft picks.

You can't underestimate the power of loyalty. Who would want to come play for the spurs if we just **** canned our franchise player. Heck its already tough enough to get players to come to San Anto when there are cities out their like NY, CHI, and LA.

I also posted in the Bulls forum if the Bulls fans would have traded MJ in 1998 for a 26 year old Shaq to have a longer window to win titles or even if they would have traded MJ that year for Duncan who was 21 years old.

I also another time posted if Bulls fans would trade Derrick Rose at 21 for Kobe Bryant last year at 30.

Don't see what the problem is?

Would you rather have Kobe from 2007 for the next 7-8 years or Derrick Rose the next 10-12 years - Link

In 97-98 Would you have traded M.J. for Shaq or Duncan if it was offered - Link

So I'm not sure what is soo funny

I think you would have to be stupid not to make this trade. Forget loyalty, the power has clearly shifted.

When did this happen? Last time I checked most NBA experts have us as one of the teams to beat for the championship this year.

I don;t why a lot of you guys think this scenerio is crazy, I think this makes so much sense for the Spurs in terms of continuing the dynasty.

Not that I think it will happen, cause it would be stupid for the Magics.
But for the Spurs, besides loyalty, I don;t see anything in between it.

LOL you guys really think you would get an offer for dwight. Dwight howard is 10x better than tim duncan. Tim duncan is already retired in a couple of years but dwight has 15+ years ahead. And if spurs got offered that trade why would they not take it.

Return to San Antonio Spurs
