H2H yahoo league with all regular categories. I got 5th pick in the draft and went with Dwight Howard.
Here is my team's draft order:
1. (5) Dwight Howard C
2. (20) Caron Butler SG,SF
3. (29) Gilbert Arenas PG
4. (44) David West PF
5. (53) Rudy Gay SF,PF
6. (68) Ben Gordon SG
7. (77) Luis Scola PF,C
8. (92) Chris Kaman C
9. (101) Allen Iverson PG,SG
10. (116) Corey Maggette SF,PF
11. (125) Ronnie Brewer SG,SF
12. (140) Mike Conley PG
13. (149) Antonio McDyess PF,C
I took a huge gamble with Arenas but I think it will pay off. I expect Scola and Kaman to come back strong and I believe Mcdyess was a steal at the last pick.
What do you think? Should I have a shot at winning this competitive league? I usually get 1st - 3rd in most of my leagues.

Off the top of my head you've drafted Dwight 2 rounds too early and Scola and Maggette are horrific.

Dwight isnt a bad pick because its h2h.. the things that i noticed are you have alot of question marks on ur team like Arenas, Kaman, Iverson, Maggette and Conley. I do think Scola is gona be solid this season though.

How is it not bad for your first round pick to sabotage an entire cat for you?

All his other guys can bring up his ft% besides he wins rebs, blks and fg% by himself. Most guys drafting Dwight that high already know what theyre getting with him.

His fg% is nowhere near as positive as his ft% is negative, not even close. He also gives no threes while being bad at assists and TO's. Sure he's an above average player but there is a reason why you won't find a rankings system anywhere that ranks him in the first round. His shot blocking is sensational though no doubt.

Re: Just drafted, rate my team? (Competitive league)
Thanks for the input. Yes, I had the 5th pick and instead of Granger or Dirk I went Dwight Howard. I don't have that much blocks on my team and he can single handedly win that and rebounds me.
Maggette and Scola are bad picks yes, but 1. Scola should be huge this year without Yao. He's certainly going to be the center of attention along with Brooks and Ariza in Houston. 2. Maggette was a 10th pick, there are very few players on the board who are 17 ppg+ or whatever he is. Plus he goes to the line a lot, and it may help offset Dwight.
But look at my team without Dwight what do you see?
Do you think Gay at 5th pick was too much? I was thinkin between him and Redd at the time. Gordon a good pick at 6th? Will Kaman grab 13 boards a game and will Arenas bounce back to over 25 ppg?
Appreciate it.

A couple of gambles with Arenas and Scola, but it can pay off. Dwight at five is just crazy, I understand your strategy since it is H2H, but at five, you could have gotten someone a lot better.
I don't like Butler in the second round, Arenas is back and there are always injury concerns with him.
West in the 4th and Gay in the 5th are solid. Gordon in the 6th round seems good as well, depends on his situation in Detroit. Kaman and Iverson are question marks, but you didn't reach too high for them. All in all I think your team is pretty good, the only real bummer is Dwight with your 5th pick.

Everyone spoke their mind about Dwight and I agree with them. The only way to justify selecting Dwight that high would be if you committed tanking ft%. Then Dwight at 5 becomes acceptable. Had you gone that route and followed with Iggy-Smith-Rondo-Biedrins-Okafor-Diaw-Odom-Brewer-Ariza-Shaq-Perkins-Conley,you would be winning Points-Rebounds-Blocks-Fg%-Steals (hence 5-4 win every week) and will be competitive in assists and turnovers too.
Anyhow,I love Conley pick. Kaman is a huge gamble since his pt/shots will be limited and he carries a lot of injury risk. Scola probably could be had with your 92th pick. West is a great pick and Gay pick is ok. Arenas is obviously an injury risk but I have faith in him. Butler at 20,I dont like it. Butler is injury prone too but somehow that flies under the radar. Just checking the last three seasons indicate that he will miss at least 15 games in any given year if not more. Maggette is another injury risk.
My prediction is you will compete for a playoff spot and will finish somewhere between 5-8. Too many injury risks and some of them are bound to burn you IMO.

Conley was a steal that late. His production will drop with A.I. in town, but that should make him more effecient and bump up the ast's at least. His value went down, but not as much as a 12th round pick.
I don't like the Kaman pick. If you were trying to fix FT% after dwight, why not take Okur or Bargnani? Plus he isn't getting as many minutes, and he always gets hurt.
I think leagues can be won with Dwight on your team, but the chips need to fall near perfectly for that to happen. I know each team's chips need to fall well, but with Dwight it makes the odds much harder than easier.

For H2H or Roto?
Dwight seems to singlehandedly win you rebounds, and blocks. And really helps with poins and FG%......so if your in a H2H league, why not tank FT% as a whole and focus on other cats? Because Dwight practically locks two categories up for you. Has this strategy not worked for anyone? I'm curious to see what others have experienced with Dwight on their team.

Since this is for Head to Head I think that Howard is an acceptable pick, the caron pick is great, However The arenas pick is far too early and could cost you big. I think Iverson shouldn't have been picked either I can't see him doing much damage except as a scorer this year. You gambled a lot if everyone turns out ok then you did a good job but if a couple of them back fire on you then your team is pretty terrible.

I like you taking a risk on AI late like that. It could pay off very well.
Nice job. (I would ha e steered of Maggette though lol)
