Russ Adams hit a home run tonight...against the Jays AAA affiliate. I can't think of a greater way to summarize his fall from grace than the fact that I completely forgot to mention it when the Jays kicked him to the curb last month.
Also, guess who was named PCL Most Valuable Player? A hint: he celebrated by getting s**tfaced today at the Rogers Centre. By which I mean that, after taking a ball to the cheek, his face probably looks like ****.

pretty good story on the blue jays home page about some of the young arms in the system along with some warm fuzzy words about JP (not riccardi) Arencibia...

Does any one know what would of happened to cecil and Rychinski(spell check) if we would have been in any kind of a play-off race, would they still have been shut down??

Re: 2009 Minor Leagues/Prospect Discussion Thread
Baseball America has begun their league-by-league prospect round-up with the Gulf Coast League, home to Toronto's rookie ball affiliate. The good news: Carlos Perez ranked fifth, not bad at all in a 16 team league. Not-really-bad news: he was the only one on the list, though that's not a huge shock (Gus Pierre being raw as roadkill and most of our pitching coming from the college ranks). I suspect we'll see Perez on their organizational top-10 list, as well.
And I'm going to do an end-of-year roundup for the kiddies...eventually. So look forward to that in, like, November.

The Jays would've made a trade in August to pick up a veteran starter or two to put on the playoff roster like several teams did this season. Or if they were a contender even earlier, they would've made a trade in July at the non-waiver trade deadline like Philly did with Cliff Lee.

Re: 2009 Minor Leagues/Prospect Discussion Thread
For those who haven't been following BA's round-up of the minors closely, the Jays have been shut out of the top 20 in the NY-Penn (short-season) and Midwest (low-A) leagues. I'm a bit surprised that Henderson Alvarez didn't crack the list, but that is a talent-filled league.
