Anyway I think this team is going to be better then what the writers are saying. I agree with Prelude. I dont think they are going to be a playoff team, but if they make it I wont be surprised.

People especially on other boards think that since VC left this team is going to suck. I totally disagree.

The D is going to be better so we wont have to have two players scoring 30 pts to win. With a balanced offense we should be ok. That is another issue with Frank. He always depended on one player to be the offensive focal point. Yeah VC was the man but if you spread it out to the others. He would have still had gotten his points but the others would be involved too. Last year it was Harris. Now we need a balanced offense that uses different offensive strategies like the Princeton, Triangle, Dribble Drive and etc.....

I personally think this year is all about FRANK. How he coaches this team from training camp!!!!

Yeah Hollinger was the Nets beat writer for the New York Sun or something. Correct me but I think that newspaper shut down right? Either way, even in our finals run, he NEVER flat out gave us a compliment. If he said something good, he would just give us a backhanded comment in the very next sentence. During our finals runs, he would talk about how strong we play defense and how efficient we are on both sides of the court...then talk about how good the West is and that we'll come out of the East that year "because somebody has to." Screw that guy. Now that he really only does ESPN stuff, he just brought that hate to a national level as well. Over the past decade, I've probably sent him about 25 emails demanding to know why he hates the Nets so much and how he is a terrible writer and his player rating system is dumb (other writers have said this as well...Hollinger apparently has a big ego).

Either way, screw that guy.

Since it's been pretty quiet lately, an idea I posted on the trade board. I think it's a good deal for us and Utah would do it. The question is if Alston/Korver would play enough for the Knicks to justify to adding $11 million in expenses.

NJ Trades: Rafer Alston and Jarvis Hayes
NJ Gets: Matt Harpring, a future lottery protect pick from Utah and $1.5 million

NY Trades: Cuttino Mobley and $1.5 million
NY Gets: Rafer Alston and Kyle Korver

UTA Trades: Kyle Korver, Matt Harpring and a future lottery protected pick
UTA Gets: Jarvis Hayes and Cuttino Mobley

Why for the Nets: They save $2.3128 million instantly and get a future pick for two players without a long-term future in NJ.

Why for the Knicks: Their roster is a little crowded, but they gain two rotation caliber players in Alston/Korver, without losing cap space or any youth. While insurance covers most of the salary on Mobley, he still counts in full against the tax so the costs are not as steep as they would seem. It costs them a shade less than $11 million for the two.

Why for the Jazz: Utah gets some much needed financial relief here without really downgrading the roster. Hayes replaces Korver as a wing off the bench and with Mobley's contract they save $7.8 million

Cuttino is like 85% paid by insurance, no way NY does that.

Yes, Mobley's salary is covered by insurance, but the whole $9.5 million still counts against the luxury tax.

Basically it comes down to which option the Knicks prefer: Pay $11.5 million for Mobley to sit at home or pay $22 million for Rafer Alston and Kyle Korver. That $10.5 million difference is about the same as if the Knicks used their MLE for a player on a 1-year contract.

Isn't Harpring seeing doctors soon to see if he has to medically retire. He said in an interview a few weeks ago he's had over 15 knee surgeries and he lost count of how many ankle surgeries.

:o

Harpring's ability to play really was irrelevant to me. To get a 1st rounder (even if it's one that we don't see for 3-5 years b/c Utah owes a pick) and save $2+ million for two bench players who aren't in the long-term future is a good deal for this team.

However, if Harpring does get a medical retirement, that might mean Utah gets some pretty decent financial relief. If that was to happen, Utah would decline since it would then basically be Korver and a pick for Jarvis Hayes.
