Cheap Entertainment Before the Season? Knicks Board....

"We may have some competition for Lebron"

Some real comedy gold in there.

I took the (class) time to compile some of the best of the best from that thread:

KnicksGod wrote:Really depends on this season. If Gallo emerges, then the Knicks would have the best chance clearly. Because we already know that LeBron gets a buzz out of MSG specifically, not just NY. The Nets' supporting cast is so overrated at this point. A few nice pieces, nothing special. So if one[ Knick, most likely Gallo, busts out as the best young player on either team

KnicksGod wrote:Along the same faulty lines, you're overrating the Nets plenty too. Gallo is a better prospect for stardom than anybody they have and since this is basketball, not baseball or football, one star trumps two or three near stars.

What a world we live in... I think Gallinari is a decent young player, I like him more for the fact that he's grounded in reality and not a prima donna like Rubio but come on... The dude's likely to be battling back problems his entire career.

knicks4real wrote:The Nets will always be to the KNICKS, what the Clippers are to the Lakers...

kosmovitelli wrote:Their new arena won't replace a storied arena like MSG overnight

Yes because the Knicks have such a great and storied franchise and have won numerous (all of 2) championships to boot... What I also love is that when people talk about the storied history of MSG they're basically referring to the fact that MSG (as it pertain to the Knicks) is famous for New York getting dumped on so many times by the likes of Jordan and Miller.

It's not a great and storied venue if it's famous for the home team getting **** on.

Synciere wrote:With that line of thought, why wouldn't Lebron just go to the Clippers and play with Davis, whose better than Harris

This isn't even funny. Baron Davis is amongst the worst chuckers of ALL-TIME.

knicks4real wrote:If you're a REAL fan of the KNICKS, don't automatically assume getting LeBron is impossible. Any and everything IS possible!

And I have a pet dinosaur...

Found this one funny:

If Gallo emerges, then the Knicks would have the best chance clearly. Because we already know that LeBron gets a buzz out of MSG specifically, not just NY. The Nets' supporting cast is so overrated at this point. A few nice pieces, nothing special. So if one Knick, most likely Gallo, busts out as the best young player on either team, the Nets would have a very low chance to beat the Knicks out for LeBron.

That makes zero sense. If our small forward turns good, we will buy a better small forward.

I also saw "we still have MSG" a hundred times. Yes it has history but it's like playing in Lambeau Field to the new Dallas Stadium. All depends on if you want history or you want state of the art.

That franchise is so lost, and so pathetic, the fans have to psychologically convince themselves that there is hope for their team. Have fun watching Jazz fans laugh every time you guys lose. Nets are by far the better team, the most attractive, and the most exciting to watch. Can't even compare the Knicks to the Lakers. Knicks fans know we are the better franchise, and most of them will convert to Nets fans when we move to Brooklyn. Such a pathetic hypocritical fan base.

^^ Good post. . . Yeah you can sense a bit of nervousness in some of the things they're writing. I think they can now see that with an owner willing to spend, Brooklyn on the way in 2011, and a young talented team we are a legit option for some big free agents. We are a team with little to no past and someone like LBJ can step in a be the face of our franchise now and later. We will have the NY market just like the Knicks, we will have more of a Global market with Russia and China. Our new owner is a baller, we have Jay-Z backin us, and we have a solid young team waiting for a star to carry us to the promised land. LBJ what more can you ask for just suck it up one year in the swamp and then the world that you so desperately want is yours.

The only thing the Knicks had over us was NY, MSG, and Mike D thats it. I agree 100% about your comment on MSG. Yeah it's the worlds most famous arena but not because of those scrub a** Knicks.

Oh and let me vent one more thing about this Galo dude. This guy is the Knicks savior. Thats all they talk about over there is Galo this and Galo that, if Galo does this we'll be in the playoffs. Shut up you homers and face the fact that this guy is nothing but hype. I have to hear about Harris isn't that good and Lopez is too slow and he's peaked. These guys at least proved something last year. Galo hasn't done **** (oh he made a few shots last year big deal). Is T. Douglas the next Iverson if you ask any Knicks fan they'll tell you he is. This guy was just bought basically for a pick nobody wanted so enough said.

The fact that we're being hyped up with a new arena, cap space, a young talented team, and a new gangster owner willing to spend and I think they're feeling truly threatened for the first time.

Sorry about the ranting and language but I had to do it. I just hate homers and I've been guilty of it at times myslfe but I try to be fair when it comes to discussions.

how the hell are we the clippers? When is the last time the knicks were in the playoffs?
Did they forget who has been killing them every year? Who finishes with a better record, with more playoff and NBA FINAL Apperances in the last 10 years. Look at their roster, they pay eddy curry super star money, I wont even start with Jared Jeffries. Go cheer for lebron or kobe when they drop 50 on you in your own damn building. At least our fans dont give standing ovations to other stars. PATHETIC.

That knicksgod guy is one of the biggest homers I have ever seen. He makes some of the stupidest arguments I have ever seen but my favorite has to be that the knicks have more assets when it comes to rebuilding.

Knicks:
Wilson Chandler
Danilo Gallinari
Jordan Hill
Toney Douglas

Nets:
Brook Lopez
Devin Harris
Chris Douglas Roberts
Terrence Williams
Yi Jianlian
Next years lottery pick
Dallas 1st rounder
GSW 1st rounder in 2012

Not to mention we have more cap space next season. But yeah disregard all of that, Gallinari is worth more than everything we have.. just because...

I HAD NETS SEASON TIX LAST YEAR AND YES THEY DO GIVE STANDING OVATIONS TO OPPOSING TEAMS ESPECIALLY THE LAKERS GAME. I NEVER SAW SO MUCH YELLOW IN MY LIFE. SAD SIGHT BUT NONETHELESS KNICKS FANS HAVE SOME SCREWS LOOSE AND NETS FANS ( I SUPPORT THE TEAM 100%) NEED TO JUST HOLD IT TOGETHER TILL BROOKLYN

I think the reversible jersey thing is hilarious, atleast we can make money off the (Please Use More Appropriate Word) fans that go to Nets games wearing a different jersey.

Read the thread and then see if the snippets aren't taken out of context. Oh, and don't paint all Knick fans with the same brush. We have more differing offering there than you have fans here..

If Harris and Lopez are your salvation and reason you're better than us, so be it and good luck to you.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who believes this... KnicksGod is hands down the most clueless poster I have ever seen...Not even close.. In fact, I thought it was an act to just get a rise out of people... But, he truly believes what he types over there..

He is under the impression that Gallo is going to be a megastar...

Anyways, good luck with your move and new owner..

It's not only Harris and Lopez, you also have Lee, T.Will, Yi, CDR, and more to come with all the first round picks we nabbed.

Can't say the same thing for your team though, that first rounder you gave away must hurt.

If you were to compare the assets each team will have under contract a year from now, there's no question the Nets come out on top. If you were rank the assets, the top 2 assets are on the Nets and considering the Kincks don't have their pick and most expect NJ to suck, we have 5 of the top 8 assets. For the sake of this argument, here's how I'd rank the assets on the two rosters:

1. Harris
2. Lopez
3. NJ's 2010 #1 (sorry, I still think we're likely to be a top 8 pick)
4. Gallinari (I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt, despite the health issues)
5. Courtney Lee
6. Wilson Chandler
7. Jordan Hill
8. Terrence Williams
9. Yi Jianlian
10. DAL's 2010 #1

Both teams would seem to have the cap to add 1 non-max player with LeBron (David Lee?). The Knicks would also have about $18 million in expirings, which should net them so talent, but I doubt anyone on the level of Devin/Brook.

However, for us to ignore the allure and glamor that comes with the Knicks, MSG and NYC, we're just as delusional as the ones who think Gallinari is better than Devin/Brook. Yes, Brooklyn looks like it will happen, but 1.) it's not a guarantee and 2.) Even if it does happen, they won't be there for 2010/11 and possibly not even for 2011/12.

The allure of MSG is a myth though. I mean name me all the free agents who have foregone significant paydays or left a significantly better team just to play at MSG / in NYC.

Go back as far as you like, I guarantee you the list won't boggle the mind.

How many players have foregone significant paydays or a significantly better team to sign elsewhere in general? Most of the big name FA signings have truly been s&t's to avoid the pay issue of the equation.

I'm sure the list isn't great, but how often have the Knicks actually had the cap room to pull off such a move? The idea that allure of MSG was going to convince a guy like Chris Weber to come when they were capped out (and honestly without chips for a s&t)

The main topic seemed to be, which scenario is more appealing if LeBron was to leave Cleveland. Let's be realistic, how good is a non-LeBron team really. Yes, the Cavs won 60+ games, but this is a product of LeBron more than the actual players he'd be leaving behind. This makes this such a different situation than other FAs in recent years.
