Your using logic though when we are dealing with real life people?

Logic dictates that Memphis should have taken RUbio at #2 they didnt.

Logic dictates that the cavs should not have paid AV so much money, but they did.

Logic dictates that Atkins could have been used better, maybe Kahn just couldnt get it done?

Just please stop posting in a manner that makes you seem like you know the score, none of us do.

He said he would trade Daniels to a team where he can play more — as he did by dealing Richardson to Miami for Blount — if he can get a similar expiring $6.6 million contract in return. Kahn said he believes helping players in that situation if possible is a bit of goodwill that eventually will benefit the franchise with other players down the road.

I also think Atkins should have been traded. But i am happy with most moves made so far.

Casey - I have no explanation. Maybe that's what bugs me.

Vindicator - I agree that owners make odd moves, but they are almost always based on their projections of players. But in this case, should we expect multiple owners over the lux to act irrationally? Or that the busy Kahn suddenly didn't do the legwork? Its odd. Also, if we decide that owners are going to act irrationally, then why post at all?

I agree with Marc too. Except maybe for the Hollins signing, I've been very happy with every single one of Kahn's trades until this. This isn't the most damaging thing in the world, but waiving Atkins rather than trading him is tossing money (or minor assets) down the drain.

While I don't have rock solid facts, reports say that Atkins requested that we release him rather than trade him. You're looking for a complex solution when a simple answer is right there. He requested to be released because he wanted to pursue a deal with another team so Kahn released him. It seems like you're having a hard time wrapping your head around the idea of schmoozing agents and players by creating a reputation for accommodating players wishes. It is the only plausible explanation I can think of. And if that was his goal, going into the biggest free agent bananza ever in 2010, he's done a pretty good job. You suggest that there is an absence of logic here, I just don't see it. Kahn is trying to create a competitive advantage by making Minnesota a "players" team. Time will tell if it worked.

That still doesn't make sense. Being released from the Wolves or some other team makes no difference, and I'm sure it didn't matter to Atkins. There's no goodwill involved.
I won't rule out that Kahn didn't have another reason for not trading him.

To me I assume that Kahn just couldn't find the deal, maybe he was asking too much, and Atkins wanted to be released ASAP so he still had a chance to catch on with a team before training camp so he had a fair shake to make a roster.

As shrink has said, I would think it shouldn't be hard to find a move that saved the Wolves a half million dollars or so over releasing him and he should have settled for a deal like that instead of just releasing him.
Of course we can't know what was on the table, or Khan's reasons for not trading him.

I had assumed that he had a deal and the other GM changed his mind. Because Atkins needs time to sign with another team, setting up another deal would take time and cut into his ability to sign somewhere and compete for a spot.

Clearly I'm just assuming with all this, but like I said it's the most logical scenario I can think of.

That was funny.

Atkins: Kahn, don't trade. I don't want to be fired by another team. I want to be fired by a top-class organization like the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Maybe Atkins wants to retire and live here in Minnesota? Thus ending his illustius career as a Timberwolf?
