Carlesimo

Post#1 » by Marc » Thu Sep 24, 2009 6:46 pm

I was just wondering. Isn't it possible for P.J Carlesimo to come back to San Antonio with his old assistant position?

From his wiki:
"Carlesimo was an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs under Gregg Popovich from 2002 to 2007. He agreed to coach the Seattle SuperSonics on July 5, 2007. The terms of the deal were undisclosed.[4] Carlesimo was fired on November 22, 2008 by the Oklahoma City Thunder after a 1–12 win-loss start."

Maybe there is something i don't know? Would you like to see Carlesimo back? Do you think he is remotely interested in coming back?

I would like to see PJ back. I especially enjoy his do as I say or I'll choke your ars out coaching style. Ashamed he didn't last long in OK. That job was destined to fail. You can't blame him for that crappy start but on the flip side the OK games I did see not like he had them playing on all cylinders either.

Well... Kevin Durant at SG. I'm sorry man but that was a bad bad decision. If Tayshawn Prince can come to the NBA as a SF and be successful even in his rookie year, I don't see how PJ can think Durant can't play SF because he'd have trouble guarding SFs. That was what he said on the topic of playing Durant at SG. Sure, OKC had no chance on winning much. Put it this way, Scoot Brooks do a much better job for OKC despite having the same roster and still not winning much.

I'd like PJ back as an assistant, but if it ever comes to a point that Pop leaves or whatever, I personally don't have any faith on PJ as being our next head coach.

I'd really like to have Avery on our staff thou.. and perhaps start grooming him to be our next coach.

Carlesimo should never be Spurs' coach but he was a good assistant.

Wasn't PJ Pop's top assistant before he left for OKC? Here's what I'm worried about. I get this feeling that when Pop leaves the Spurs, he's gonna hand it to his top assistant. I can't see Pop bringing in a non-spur coach like for instance bring in Rick Adelman or Jeff Van Gundy or something because I feel that Pop will want to keep the Spurs culture going. So I have no idea who our top assistant is right now, and if PJ come back and be his top assistant again, then I have my worries. I really don't want PJ as our future coach.

Avery on the other hand can be the perfect coach for our post-Duncan teams. They say he's very strict and discipline and all. that's perfect for a young team. Obviously with Duncan, Pop, and Manu gone, we'd start rebuilding and go young. A firm hand is perfect for this team. And Avery is an original Spur.

Avery might not be a good fit for this current ball club, but for what I see in the future, damn he's perfect. I can't think of a better coach.. and a young coach too.

Using that theory, you would need Avery to agree to be Spurs' assistant for a year. I seriously doubt he would accept being an assistant.

well, like I said before, I would like Avery to be on the staff. Honestly, I doubt Avery can't get a job in the next 2-3 years. So I do think it's not likely to happen. But with Avery thou, I think he's a guy that Pop might let take over even thou he's not his assistant.

He has a good rapport here... so I wouldn't mind.
