Suns Starting 5: The BEST Shooters In The Game

Post#1 » by TheMan44 » Sun Sep 27, 2009 7:52 am

Paul Coro's new article - http://www.azcentral.com/sports/suns/articles/2009/09/26/20090926spt-suns.html - mentions Gentry has some of the best shooters in their respective positions in all of NBA, which is going to fit so well in the run-n-gun system:

"Gentry has some of the better shooters, if not the best, at their positions with a starting lineup of Nash, Jason Richardson, Hill, Amaré Stoudemire and likely Frye, whose perimeter touch opens the floor for Nash and Stoudemire."

Come to think of it - you know what?

He is right!

Suns do indeed have the BEST shooters in the NBA in their respective positions. Nash, Rich, Hill, Amare, and Frye are going to be deadly in field-goal percentage. I really think this is going to be key in the Suns playoff run.

From position one thru five, I really don't see a better team that has all around shooting that surpasses the Suns. Maybe the Raptors - but not much after that...

I have been saying something a long these lines for ages. Sure, we don't have the 3 point bombers like Raja and Q when they were around, but what we do have is all 5 starters being capable of stepping out and spreading the floor..........right out to the 3 point line.

Which is the main reason why I still think Run 'N Gun can work with this line-up.

i agree this is def. a good offensive line up but if you want to talk about just pure shooting i think jrich could DEF use more consistency... but other than that its true we can be deadly offensively.

RIchardson is not the best shooting SG in the NBA, and Okur is better than Frye.

I can think of 5 who are better - remember the guy's a career 71% ft shooter, and only just got over hitting 44% of his fg when he got to PHX for half a season

(Allen, Redd, Gordon, Roy, Kobe, Wade) Could probably go on too.

As hershey said, we need CONSISTENCY from him, and I think he'll have that this year as the #2 option. I fully expect him to challenge for the league lead in 3 pters made/attempted.

You're right though Sunsman, 1-5 this is probably the best shooting team...

Its great that we are an excellent shooting team

however, its too bad that the Suns are lousy in the other main criteria to being a successful team.

Defense and Rebounding (Probably one of the worst in league in both)

Yep....I'm thinking we give up more than 110 ppg. Hopefully, we'll be scoring close to 120 to balance it out.

This was during one of my periodic vacations/boycotts of the NBA but I remember reading a news story about a team that didn't play defense, just wanted to get the ball back and get it downcourt asap.
Was it Doug Moe coaching?

Points Per Game: 126.5 (1st of 23) ▪ Opponent Points Per Game: 126.0 (23rd of 23)

and - oh, bitter irony - they were beat in the 1st round by ..... our Suns.
