Lakers Upcoming Roster. Who dresses, Who doesn't & Who goes?

Post#1 » by Anklebreaker702 » Tue Sep 29, 2009 12:15 am

On the player comparisons board someone asked us to list our team in order of importance. I listed
1. Kobe Bryant
2. Pau Gasol
3. L.O.
4. Andrew Bynum
5. Ron Artest
6. Derek FIsher
7. Luke Walton
8. Shannon Brown
9. Josh Powell
10. Jordan Farmar
11. Sasha Vujacic
12. DJ Mbenga
13. Adam Morrison

But my concern is that is 13 players & only 12 dress. So that brings me to the question who do you guys think will dress? Who won't? And ultimately, Who will be gone by trade deadline?

I hope the Lakers don't hesitate to cut Ammo if Gelable has a nice camp.

I don't remember much about that guy. Is he better than a healthy Ammo?

I can't really say, I haven't watched much of him either. I think a healthy ammo, with some confidence and full training camp is probably better, but Gelabale may be the better fit as an athletic backup wing. Both have some upside, both have injury concerns. I think it will be an interesting battle.

I have no idea where Gelabale is at in terms of his recovery from his ACL injury, he may have just been brought in as training camp fodder. Ammo is probably the safer bet but if Gelabale outplays him in training camp I would definitely keep him around.

dj and ammo will be inactive depending on the opponent. i have a feeling it'll be ammo that isn't dressed more often than not.

ammo and dj dont dress depending on the opponent...

all depends on which portion of our rosters will be more foul prone on the night...

ammo wll be dealt without notice, if there are sufficient savings to be had...

gelabale is there to maintain a league minimum 13 player roster (correct me if im wrong) if ammo is dealt

Nope won't happen.........in this economy Dr.Buss isn't going to eat $5,257,229 mil. If he's moved it'll be in a trade because he's expiring.

Ammo is taking Sasha spot as the shooter before the end of the year.

For all you guys calling for Ammo's head, here's a few reasons why he won't be dismissed as quickly as most of you would like.

For starters he could turn out to be a trade chip, so why are guys not realizing this ? Secondly the Lakers need somebody to step into the role of the "shooter", no way we can just trust Sasha as the sole source for that role. By giving Ammo a shot which is what has to be done to floss him as a trade chip, we'll find out if he is serious about becoming an NBA threat.

To answer the question of who's going to be inactive.......that's easy it's DJ, simply not enough minutes on the front line for him to see the floor. He'll dress on nights when we see Boston, Portland the Spurs and maybe the Magic and Cavs. Those teams boast formidable front line players and we'll need the depth on those nights only. So Ammo will dress for the most part.

Gelabale will make the roster if he proves that we simply can't cut him.His pre season performances will have to be quality performances. His defense should win him a spot, but shooting is a factor also.
And the Lakers can always go back on their word and just hold 14 on the roster.

Historically Buss hasn't eaten contracts too much or at all. No reason to think he will now, it wouldn't be good business to dump what is an asset regardless of how you guys feel personally about Ammo. The NBA now isn't about the player in some cases, it's about the loot. Monetary value of a contract holds more weight than the actual player.

No one here can give a logical reason on why you should just dump $5 mil. Don't let your personal vendetta cloud clear thinking that is straight up common sense. Some here would make sad poker players......better yet it shows you could actually never be in charge of running a sports franchise.

i don't consider ammo a trade chip. he's only a trade chip if the lakers are willing to take on money, which im certain they're not.

OK DC, but you still hold on to his salary slot. Not that it'll get the team under the cap but you hold on .......maybe somebody gets desperate for a shooter. Yeah maybe Ammo isn't a high profile trade chip, but in today's NBA what role player is ?

It's about the cash man.

i wouldn't be surprised to see him get bought out. this is a crucial year for him, his contract yr. the lakers could probably get a nice discount in a buy out. its in ammo's best interest to not be sitting on the bench all yr. he needs to show what he has left.

All the more reason why I think he'll come through.

So if Phil goes woith LO in the starting line up, do you think they will just rotate around or will that get DJ more minutes? It would only leave us with 1 "big" coming off the bench.
