Briggs sidelined with foot injury

Post#1 » by SportsWorld » Wed Sep 30, 2009 8:15 pm

Thus completing the trifecta of hurt LB's.

LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- We'll have a full injury update after practice, but here are a few things we picked up watching the team stretch.

Despite Pisa Tinoisamoa testing out his sprained knee last Sunday in Seattle, the strong side linebacker is not practicing Wednesday, and sounds like will not make his return against the Lions. The Bears may be erring on the side of caution since they're headed into their bye week after hosting Detroit.

Hunter Hillenmeyer (ribs) is also skipping practice, and could miss this weekend's game. If that indeed happens, Nick Roach would stay in the middle, with Jamar Williams likely to start on the strong side. Lance Briggs is also sidelined with a foot injury. No word yet on whether Briggs' injury is serious, but there were no indications after the Seattle victory that he was hurt. More later

If Briggs is out, we might be able to chalk up a victory to the Lions.

Wouldn't mind that. Lions could use all the wins they can get, especially with some of their guys sidelined as well.

I hope everyone makes a full recovery for you guys. Just not until Monday lol.

If Lance Briggs is the only thing keeping us from losing a home game to the Lions then I've spent waaaay too much time following the development of this team.

The Football gods hate us apparently? I can't explain it any other way.

Bears LB's need more calcium

Wouldn't go that far. Even minus Briggs the Lions are bad enough that we should pull it out. Even if we get into a shootout situation, which I doubt.

Detroit has an AWFUL secondary, and a pretty bad defense overall(Though they do have Ernie Sims). From what I've seen of them in game, and from what I've read on their messageboards support this. A lot is made of the Bears secondary, but really considering the philosophy(Bend don't break + Cover 2) I don't think they are that bad(Except for Vasher who I think even minus that Green Bay play, doesn't belong on a Football field anymore). If you want to see what a truly awful secondary looks like look at theirs.

Really I see Hester and Knox having big days. Nevermind the fact that the Detroit D-line isn't good at creating pressure, so the WR's should have opportunities to get tons of YAC and Cutler should get a good amount of chances down field.

All indications that the injury is not serious and that he's just taking the day off like kind of veteran's rest. His listed as probable.

Yeah I think Briggs will play. And I guess Roach is starting at MLB on Sunday.

The next report from the Bears will state" I repeat..... we still are not interested in signing Derrick Brooks. We just signed Darrell McClover!"
A plea for post scoring is a plausible Bulls plan, but plainly isn't a priority. In response to a post player's dismay about his lack of points in the paint, Paxson said.... "I'm not nearly as concerned about the offensive stuff as he is."

Though they do have Ernie Sims

Sims is waaay overated in my opinion. He has the skills but he always overpersues and never seems to put himself in position to make the play that needs to be made. He was out last week and his replacement played pretty good. He may not even play this week.

Briggs was more than likely just given the day off. His foot is sore and it isn't just one thing that happened to it in the Seahawk game. He'll be good to go on Sunday.

^^^

Having the skills to be great is a start for the Lions D, because their pieces on defense are VERY LIMITED

Latest report now is that Briggs is on crutches in an inflatable walking boot, per WSCR

Anyone know the last time the Lions had a winning streak?

2007, we were 6-2 to start the season (including two wins against the Bears), then finished the season 1-7.
