Looks like the players aren't big fans of Gaston, though I always thought Gaston was a manager that players got along with.

This is absolutely ridiculous! I agree OP I was under the impression that Gaston was a players coach. I have a feeling this is blown out of context/proportion or some 2-3 players have nothing better to do then blame a coach for why they suck themselves.

Hey who knows maybe I am way off basis and he his this ass of a coach. But really how long can you put the blame on the coach, I am sorry but the blame needs to start from within.

And the way this player(s) went about this, going to foxsports? WOW!

I am not shocked at this. Cito has committed blunder after blunder this season. So players will definitely raise eyebrows..

Here are a few Cito feats from this year:

1- Jesse Carlson - Any other manager would have either cut his work down to come in during blow outs only or would have sent him down. But Cito loves this douche and refuses to cut his PT.

2- Jason Fraser - Our best relief pitcher this year. Got shafted earlier in the year by Cito. Didn't get enough work early on and was made closer only cuz Mr. Glass Toe couldn't stay off the DL.

3- Travis Snider - A LOT is riding on this kid. And Cito, even today, doesn't play him everyday especially when there's a lefty on the mound. Let the kid play! Let him learn on the job!! Enough of your platooning Cito!

4- Kevin Freaking Millar - How this guy got so many at-bats is just beyond me. Absolutely horrible decision by Cito. He just kept running Millar out there when Overbay was sitting on the bench. Ruiz was capable of playing first base and Dopirak was toiling in AAA killing every pitcher who came in his path. But what does Cito do? Play Kevin Millar!!!

5- Brian Tallet - This guy is an OK pitcher. But sticking him in the starting lineup every chance he got, thats just stupid. Tallet is not a starting pitcher! Surely doesn't have the stuff!

6- Scott Richmond - Call me crazy but Richmond got rough treatment from Cito midway through the season (before he got injured) where he was made to skip starts and wasn't even used in the bullpen when he skipped starts. Tallet and Jenssen were preferred over Richmond. I think Richmond's late season struggles were also due to lack of confidence. Cito hurt his confidence when he kept skipping him. I am of the view that had Richmond been given consistent work throughout the season, he would have had a better record and numbers. I think he's better than Tallet and Jenssen by a mile!

7- Casey Jenssen - Shakes head. I don't know whats with Cito's love for this guy. He got so many undeserved opportunities that I stopped watching when he would be pitching.

8- Jeremy Accardo - Another good reliever shafted by Cito and his Cito'ism. The guy was dicked around with the entire year when he could have been our second best reliever behind Fraser.

9- Johnny Mac. Poor guy. He is such a loyal soldier that he never made a peep about not playing for almost 75% of the season. And had Scutaro/Encarnacion not gone down, he would still be keeping the bench warm. He is our best defensive player, and hasn't been a shoddy hitter (this year at least), should have given him more games Cito!

10- Hardly ever used a PH - I know players need their rest but when you have the bases loaded and Adam Lind is on the bench, don't send Millar out to bring the runners home!

11- Base stealing - We had ok speed on the bads, hardly ever used hit and runs. HARDLY! Didn't steal much either.

12- Suspect bullpen management - Shoddy at best. Never used the pitchers properly. Always used favorites.

and much more than this..

As long as he has a good relationship with Lind, Hill and Halladay(if he stays on the team), I don't care about his relationship with the rest of those losers.

Yeah I don't really believe any of this. I'm sure this is just one player who was trying to make something out of nothing. I have a feeling this player was Vernon Wells personally. I can't think of anybody else on the team who would turn on Cito like this. Maybe Travis Snider, but he's a rook, I doubt he has the guts to say something like this. I bet maybe Rios leaked this story though before he left, or right now..lol.

Cito has given playing time to numerous people, who don't even deserve regular playing time like Kevin Millar, Jose Bautista, Johnny Mac, Edwin Encarnacion..etc. So I dunno why they would gripe.

The constant negativity spewing from the managers office is that he knows that this team is better than they are, but he's just fed up with overpaid stars not performing like they should. This team needs a C, SS, 3B, 1B, DH and possibly a SP or 2 before they become a contender again, but I really can't see that happening unless they open the vault....so I guess we will see what happens this offseason.

Apparently on the fan 590 Wulner said there were close to 9 players who told him personally they were not pleased with him. Something about him being an old school coach who's not approachable.

I think he tried to light a fire under their asses and they didn't like it. I know he called out Vernon/Rios and he said Doc should be traded. That's ballsy.

I've always liked Cito but it's obvious he's not doing Snider any favours or Accardo or JMac or even Jesse L.

This offseason is going to be crazy - either they keep Cito and get him a veteran laden squad through trades of they rebuild and can him because he's not doing the youth any favours. I really have no clue what's going to happen.

No biggie. We need changes up top, and they should include Cito.

I agree with mini-me

P.S. How exactly did you settle on that name? You saw Hoopstarr with two Rs was taken so instead of picking another name you just decided to add some Zs and roll with it?

Haha still can't get over it eh?

As for Cito, you have to think how much of his preaching has to do with the emergence of Aaron Hill and Adam Lind. Both for sure have always been talented players, but would they be 35+HR, 100rbi guys if it weren't for Cito or Gino?

I am going to take a wild guess and say that the players displeased with Cito are pitchers. There may be a position player or two in the mix. Tallet, Accardo, maybe Johnny Mac are players I think of.

Lind would've emerged regardless since he's in his peak years. Hill had already emerged and I don't think he can even maintain this further leap he took. His HR/FB rate is totally unsustainable; he's simply swinging a lot more, which I'm sure Cito told him to do but it's not sustainable.

As for Cito, we're talking about baseball here. People tend to think of managers as an all-controlling dictator with a direct impact on the game. No, that's a football coach; baseball managers are the complete opposite. Football coaches control everything until the play breaks down. Baseball managers simply have to make obvious decisions. Unfortunately, Cito has a history of screwing up obvious decisions as Hoopstarrzzz shows above.

Cito as a manager is a great idea for a team packed with HOFers and all-stars like 92/93, but not so with a team of young players. He was a complete failure in the late 90s with the young Jays because he refused to play them. Cito's brand of "players manager"/"calm presence" is great in the short-term, but incompetence with simple in-game decisions will catch up to any manager.

Haha.. dude relax.. you will always be the real hoopstarr..

Your question made me curious.. how exactly did you settle on your name? You sat Hoopstar with one R was taken so instead of picking another name you just decided to add an R to the end and roll with it?

His commitment to players like Millar, Blowtista when he sucked, Carlson etc, not playing guys who are putting up good numbers, Accardo, Hayhurst etc. I think it's time to have a new manager

Nostalgia was clouding people's perceptions of Gaston. He is the same guy. Always will be. Although I never expected a problem in the clubhouse. He always seemed like a manager who lacked managing skill, not motivation/people skills. He seems to have a chip on his shoulder having been away from the game so long despite his two WS rings so maybe that has enhanced his ego a bit. Who knows. His quotes to the media have been Ricciardi-esque lately, which is not a good thing.

In Cito's defense, the Jays lost Burnett, Marcum, and McGowan and did nothing to improve any aspect of the team from the squad that won 86 games last year. On paper this was a .500 team at best. The early hot start increased expectations but the talent just wasn't there, especially when Vernon and Rios went into the crapper offensively.

Yep Willner said 9 to 10 players don't want Cito to come back next year. What a crazy and sad year it has been for the Jays. :banghead: :nonono:

I wouldn't be surprised if Vernon was involved, and trying to get the heat of him by blaming Cito.

Managers and coaches lose their clubhouses and locker rooms all the time, but you hardly ever see players go whining to the media about it while the season is still going. I thought it was low for whoever these guys are to go public with this instead of keeping it in house. If they really do have a problem with Cito they should have gone to Beeston first because from the looks of it he didn't even know about this until now.

The clowns didn't even didn't even have the balls to have their names printed along with the quotes.
