Report

Toronto Blue Jays management change

ROGERS today announced that J.P. RICCIARDI will be leaving his position as Senior Vice President, Baseball Operations & General Manager of the Toronto Blue Jays effective immediately. Mr. Ricciardi joined the Blue Jays in 2001.

"This was a tough decision and a difficult one for me personally as I have enjoyed J.P.'s friendship and his perspective on the game," said Paul Beeston, acting President, and CEO. "J.P. has put an incredible amount of effort into improving the team and he has brought along a number of great young players. However, I feel that it is time for a change and accordingly we have decided to move on."

Alexander Anthopoulos, Vice President, Baseball Operations & Assistant General Manager will fill the role commencing today.

HOORAY!

Happy Happy Joy Joy!

I'm so happy he's gone. I hope this doesn't mean the end of Cito as well.

A couple very bad contracts did him in.

I believe he is a more than decent evaluator of minor league talent. But at this level you also need to accurately guage the 'worth' of your upper echelon talent. He failed at that miserably (with no help from Godfrey).

No we were in year 7 of his 75 year rebuilding plan. Next year was not going to be the year.

Alex Anthopolous will be taking over...he's Canadian, and it's not for nothing that they've been parading him out on the Fan pretty frequently this year.

Why not wait until the end of the season? Whatever, he was a lame duck in a lot of ways. No way was he surprised by this.

Shows them right for calling this year nothing but a set up for the following one. Very bad way to go about things for everyone involved, I don't want to hear that as a fan.
"I definitely knew he traveled, but I didn't know they were going to call it. That was one of them situations in which a great player made a move...and they called the call. And I was like, 'Oh, man, there is a God.'
