MIN - DAL

Post#1 » by shrink » Sun Oct 4, 2009 2:08 pm

I think Damien Wilkins is going to get buried here, which is a shame because he's a decent player. At 29, he's probably too old for our direction, but he's a strong and athletic defender who has started nearly 100 games in his five years with the Sonics/Thunder. I think we should do him a favor and find him a better place to continue his career.

I've been fielding offers for him over on the trade board in this thread ...

... and this is the one I find the most appealing:

Darren wrote:The Mavs offer Shawne Williams (young talent, expiring), Nathan Jawai (young talent, expiring) and a couple of draft rights (Abmad Nivins, Shan Foster, Nick Calathes, and so on) for Damian Wilkins.

These two players are DAL's "we can trade them or buy them out to get under the roster limit" guys that Mavs fans are willing to throw at anyone. I'm OK with either player, though I don't have high hopes. What interests me is Calathes. I wonder if we liked him, or we picked him because DAL liked him? Anyway, I'd like to trade Wilkins for a package that was light on talent but heavy on future draft rights.

You guys know these prospects better than I do, but I still have a wistful attraction to Calathes, like some pretty girl in high school I almost dated.

I'm curious on your valuations/projections, and what your opinion would be on this trade.

As long as a deal made for Wilkins does not affect our 2010 cap space I'm ok with any deal.

I think we owe him that he gets traded or bought out so that he can go to a team that can offer him some minutes on court.

I liked Foster in college but I'm not sure he'll do much in the pros. I'd be willing to give him a look. Is MnWii around? I'd like to hear what he thinks about Foster.
