Miguel Cabreras fun weekend

Post#1 » by ajaX82 » Mon Oct 5, 2009 5:47 pm

A synopsis:

Gets trashed with White Sox players

Goes home at 6 am

Gets into fight with wife, gets cut up

Cops called, taken to police station, blows a .26 (!)

released to custody of Tigers, picked up at cop shop by Dave Dombrowski (bet he was tickled)

Goes 0-11 in series

From all of us Tiger fans, i give a hearty **** you to Miggy for being a complete douche and not focusing during the final weekend of the season. Partying with the opponent? Awesome!

Do you have any links or sources as to these facts? I have seen a plethora of rumors floating around, and I am not going to bash Miggy until I can verify what the facts/truth of the matter is. I'd like to have the evidence before I pass any judgments.

Good enough for me.

I too extend my middle finger to our beloved "franchise" player.

At this point I will confess I'm still easily more upset with Inge swinging the bat like he doesn't belong in Single A since the all star break.

In my opinion, we have a really terrible hitting coach, because our team has no plate discipline and swings at too many bad pitches in counts that favor taking a pitch. The strategy of taking pitches to try and draw walks in strategic circumstances is often overlooked in baseball in general, and one of this team's greatest weaknesses by far.

Our players can't resist the temptation to try and swing for a big hit, when in actuality for many players; the pure act of swinging the bat is more likely to do something bad than it is to do something good. If you can help it, you almost want to delay swinging until your hand is forced that you HAVE to swing. That's not an automatic rule by any means, rather it is a sentiment in general that needs more consideration, and especially for hitters on our team.

We could have won additional games this year just be exercising the will power to not swing the bat at certain junctures. This is something that Jim Leyland has failed to learn in all the years he has spent in baseball, and I find that to be shocking. And I have watched every game this team has played over the last couple years, and I know firsthand there has been a plethora of these types of errors (amongst several other categories of errors such as batting orders and pinch-hit/run decisions and bunting/stealing mistakes). If Leyland had a stat column for managerial errors, he would by far and away lead the team in that category. This is a HUGE reason why we are just 10 games over .500

Did it say anywhere at what time he was tested and with what type of equipment the measure was taken? .26 is very high, but it wouldn't be the first time in history that a police officer recorded an inaccurate reading with faulty or unreliable equipment/methods, just sayin'. Just because ESPN and MLIVE report it as a .26 doesn't mean it is absolute truth. I wouldn't hold a .26 against the guy until I knew it was reliable data. It would be helpful if there was corroborating evidence from the barkeep and/or receipts regarding his drinking levels.

I would also be interested to know Cabrera's full side of the story along with all of the other witnesses, as well as at what time he had those drinks, and what he was doing for transportation. If you guys come across more details from more links in the future, please post them here so we can learn more about was happening. From everything I have read so far, I'm definitely not going to be bashing Cabrera just because he had one awful night of poor judgment, as there is just too many details unknown as well as others that I can't substantiate. Surely the early indication is that it doesn't look good for Cabrera in terms of his actions, but I do not like making mistakes, and I'm not going to condemn Cabrera at the level that I have seen others do until I know exactly what happened and to a reasonable degree of certainty.

I'm highly disappointed that Miggy was out drinking all night with opposing players during a very important series.

That said, I'm not going to bash the guy about the rest of the story until we know all the facts.

Things we know:

1. Miggy came home drunk to an angry wife.

2. Miggy and Mrs. Miggy fought, Miggy has a massive scratch and brusies on his face.

3. Cops released him without finding anything to charge him with.

Now I'm not condemning hitting a woman, but you don't know if he was defending himself or not. His face would suggest that his wife wasn't exactly trembling in the corner.

Being drunk isn't a crime. I'm not glad he was over 3 times the legal limit, but no where does it say Miggy was driving while being over the legal limit.

The cops took both sides of the story and all of the physical evidence and deemed that Cabera committed no crimes.

Not the brightest turn of events, the worst timing possible for this to happen, but we don't know the whole story. I'm not going to flog the guy for the fight with his wife, but I will remain disappointed that he put his night out with the guys above the teams playoff chances. He'll probably be disciplined by the team for conduct detrimental to the team, but beyond that, there's really nothing to say about this.

Indeed, well said. Hopefully he has a big game tonight to help him get out of the doghouse.
