Apparently Omar Minaya is already offering him (and Kevin Towers) a job.

Does Omar not realize that bringing in an ex-GM and then finally living up to expectations is a great way to get yourself replaced? Maybe he thinks by bringing in two of them, the Mets won't know which one to fire him for?

Not all of it was his fault but some of those big contracts were massive failures. He was able to bring in decent pitching but the hitting was another story.

Adam Lind is one of the best hitters in the AL...a player he drafted. Aaron Hill has hit 36 HR this year.

Throwing Spaghetti at the wall comes to mind when I think of JP's draft history...

I think he will definitely land an assistant job somewhere (probably Oakland or Boston). Another GM job? I don't know. His lack of PR skill is notorious by now, and I'm sure team presidents out there are aware of the Wells contract and other blunders he has made financially. He would be a solid candidate for a team in a weaker division (AL Central?), but I just don't see him getting another GM job, at least not right away.

Not right away, no. But within five years, almost certainly; the re-tread rate in baseball isn't as bad as basketball or hockey, but I'm fairly confident that Ricciardi will get a second chance.

The Mets already want him in the organization, it seems.

JP did go out with some solid players in the organization.

Adam Lind
Aaron Hill
Travis Snider
Ricky Romero
Marcum
McGowan (unfortunately injury prone, but the talent is there)
Cecil
Arecibia etc.

Sure he didn't take us to the playoffs, but its not like he left the organization is a horrible shape.

It's kind of funny. You would have thought that this would be a huge story, but in a way it's really not. We all knew this was coming. The only thing left to speculate on is how this affects the presidential situation.

I believe McGowan was drafted by Gord Ash (who also drafted Wells, Rios, Orlando Hudson and Michael Young - i believe, but not certain)
