Tauscher works out for Packers
Oct 06, 2009 -- 2:32pm
GREEN BAY -- It'd be premature to cue the "Welcome Back, Kotter" theme music -- "Who'd have thought they'd lead ya ... back here where we need ya?" -- but former Packers right tackle Mark Tauscher worked out for the team earlier today and is in town, according to an NFL source.
Whether Tauscher's visit and workout with the team he spent 10 years playing for remains to be seen.
Tauscher suffered a torn ACL in his left knee -- the second time he's suffered the injury -- last Dec. 9 and underwent reconstructive surgery Jan. 11. An unrestricted free agent following last season, he went unsigned and has been at his home in Sun Prairie rehabilitating his injury.
Last week, Tauscher worked out for the Kansas City Chiefs but did not sign with the team.
The Packers' offensive line has been a train-wreck through four games, and the team worked out a group of offensive linemen last week as well. Monday night, quarterback Aaron Rodgers was sacked eight times in a 30-23 loss to the Minnesota Vikings at the Metrodome.

Tauscher deal close
By Tom Silverstein of the Journal Sentinel
Oct. 6, 2009 4:31 p.m.
Green Bay -- There is interest from both the Green Bay Packers and Mark Tauscher in reaching a contract agreement, but the two sides still must hammer out a deal.
Tauscher worked out for the Packers Tuesday afternoon and from most accounts passed his physical test with flying colors. It was about 11 months ago that Tauscher suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee, and the Packers had set an Oct. 1 date to revisit the possibility of re-signing him.
Tauscher also worked out for Kansas City last week and his agent may be trying to use that as leverage to get him the best possible deal. But all things being equal, Tauscher would prefer to stay with the Packers, where he would probably regain his starting right tackle position in a short while.
Coach Mike McCarthy said he had made it known to right tackle Allen Barbre that re-signing Tauscher was a possibility, so it should not come as a shock to Barbre.
According to offensive line coach James Campen, who attended Tauscher's workout, everything went well.
"He looked fine," Campen said. "I visited with him for about 10 minutes. It's always nice to talk to Mike."
None of the coaches knew what management's intentions were with Tauscher and were unaware if anything was imminent. However, one league source said it was a matter of the two sides working out financial terms.
"It would give you a good football player to our 53-man roster," McCarthy said of the possibility of adding Tauscher. Mark's history here, he has played a ton of football for us. He just has the experience."

I am all for Tausch but remember the past 3 seasons GB was at the very bottom of the league running right, this will not help there run game it will hurt it, hopefully his leadership skills and pass blocking ability will have a big effect. I want nothing to do with Levi Jones, would rather go with Lang, he has some major potential, a reall battler, tough, athletic, and pretty intelligent I hear, I was all for starting Lang at LT against the Rams..
