I know that Kobe Bryant has made a lot of money over the years. I was just thinking about him taking a huge pay cut so we can only improve the team down the road. What do you guys think?

If Kobe played for free. Then we might not have to pay any taxes. It really does not matter what Kobe makes. The Lakers are so far over the cap that it does not make that much difference if Kobe takes less or 30 million a year. No new players will be coming to LA unless it is a mid level deal like Ron did. Or via trade.

Kobe won't take a pay cut, nor should he. He'll get the max, or very close to it, and he deserves every penny. But as duane said, it wouldn't really matter since we're waaaayyyyy over the cap anyway. The only way we improve via free agency down the road is with the MLE.

If you are the best employee at your company, and your company is the best in the business, would you be willing to take a pay cut so that the company could employ more people?

HELLLLLLLLLLLL NO

He works hard to be the best and he deserves the money that he will be paid, plain and simple.

I think the number that was thrown around earlier in the summer is good.

Extension of3 years @ 85 million... on top of his 2 year 48 remaining.

5 years 130 millionish should keep him happy.

Locks him up for 5 years.. pays him what he deserves and we don't worry about it.
Cheers. — Mags

Kobe absolutely deserves the max and the Lakers should absolutely be willing to oblige him. There will be no pay cuts, such things only exist in a fantasy land where employees want to give their uber-rich boss-owners a break when it's completely unnecessary. It's no surprise that talks have been productive, there really isn't much to talk about when it comes to the team's franchise player and the most marketable basketball player in the world. Kobe deserves every penny he gets from the Laker ownership for all the hard work he puts in while in a Laker uniform, and because of how much revenue and excitement he draws for the Laker franchise.

Let Jerry Buss take the paycut, or better yet his sons. Kobe deserves this kind of money. He is the BEST player in the game.

He will not take a pay cut and he shouldn't have to. He is still close to his peak on a championship team. Give him what he wants and move on. He's definitely worth the money.

Buss to Kobe:

Hey Kobe can you take a pay cut from your salary so that I personally can make more money on top of my fortune and income? Please? Thank little luxury tax thing is annoying...

Kobe:
