MIN-PHI

Post#1 » by berginator » Wed Oct 7, 2009 5:41 am

This works in the trade machine:

Mark Blount and Damien Wilkins + Utah's 1st rounder

for

Andre Iguodala

Assuming Philly is sucking it up by the trade deadline and wants to cut payroll, do we do this? Or can we do better in free agency with the cap space? Or does Philly even consider this?

Think about it this way: What would we say if this package was offered for Al Jefferson?

Is Iguadola on the same level of Jefferson? I'm not necessarily arguing with you, but it was my understanding that most people considered him overpaid. I am aware that it's wishful thinking, but if it's a lost season for Philly, is there no way they take the cap relief and another shot at a younger, cheaper star? What if it's the T-wolves pick instead of Utah's? What can I say, it's late, I'm just a little drunk and I'm spit-balling, so feel free to tell me if I'm just being stupid. The one thing I do know for sure, there is no way we sign a marquee free agent at a fair price, we NEED to make a deal that takes advantage of our expirings.

It's conceivable that Philly would look to move Iguodala, but probably not until after the season, and definitely not for a package this weak. They'd want better pieces to go along with the cash savings, and I'd probably still be willing to give them up. I really like Iguodala. Yes to this impossible deal, and yes to a far worse one too.

I love it, but I don't think it's a trade idea you should bring to the sixers board.

If Philly were sucking it up and wanted to cut payroll at the deadline, I don't think they would start with Iggy. They've got plenty of other big contracts they could use in a deal for expirings.

If the Sixers are dealing Iggy, they will probably be sending him off with Dalembert. They would also be looking for a guy like Flynn or Love in return.

So true, honestly I'd be fine with taking Dalembert too, I just think I'd be too loathe to part with either Flynn or Love. Brewer, Ellington, those guys would be fine, but yeah, it's not likely. Ah well... I'm just hopelessly pining for a stud wing.

There are some who believe Iggy is holding back young. if they really want to cut money and give young free reign then maybe they agree to it. I think the Char pick would need to be part of it also.

I bet they'd still want Flynn or Love included

I think it could be done without taking Dally back, but I'm sure you'd have to have more than just expirings. Utah and Charlotte pick would both need to be included and probably a young player, I'm sure they'd push for someone like Flynn or Love. Flynn would make more sense with Holliday at SG. Still having Brand makes Love a little pointless.

If it was done with Dally, they might not hold out for as much in youth and picks as that's a huge salary dump. We'd have to do Blount, Cardinal, Daniels, Brewer and picks. Kills our cap space, but that would be a tough deal to turn down.

Dumping Iguodala doesn't create cap space for the Sixers, and a team from a major market like Philly probably won't dump a young, talented player for financial savings. I think at minimum you have take Dalembert or offer young talent.

They have Lou Williams and Jrue Holiday, i don't think they would need Flynn, they would want Love or Al if this deal went down
