Preseason Game #1

Post#1 » by evildallas » Thu Oct 8, 2009 3:54 am

From the Yahoo! recap, Atlanta won by 6 over the Hornets and were up big at halftime. Sadly I missed it because of work, but did anyone catch it and can give a breakdown of how the guys actually played?

Didn't see it either. Anyone know how Mario had 11 rebounds?

I saw in Sekou's recap that Teague had 2 assists but missed all 4 of his shots from the field....then I look on Yahoo's box score and it said that he had 19 points and 1 assist. That's some pretty lame reporting considering our 1st round pick's performance and injury updates are the only 2 things that I'm remotely concerned about for this non televised pre-season.

There is a fixed posting up now, but there was still a link to the one with the bad info on Teague. So I guess he rewrote it from the box score, ouch. BTW, the 0-4 with 2 assists was Jamal Crawford's stat line in limited action (9 minutes) according to the box score.

"That really helped right there, that helped me a lot," said Teague, who was 6-for-12 from the floor and 7-for-8 from the free throw line. "[Mike] Bibby, Josh [Smith] and Marvin [Williams] were all telling me the same thing. They were like, ‘Just play your game and attack. You're faster than anybody they got out there so just go the hole and play your game.' So that's what I tried to do.

updated Sekou Recap

I just wanted to post that quote because of the "You're faster than anybody they got out there" comment.

Teague looks so much better than Law it's not even funny. Law never ever played with confidence unless it was the Rocky Mountain Review. We have fickle,sub-par fan support on this site and in general for a team with this kind of potential and upside meaning prepare for BandWagon Central if the Hawks really hit their stride. :waaa:

Per Sekou:
Hawks veterans Mo Evans (knee), Joe Smith (knee) and Jason Collins (out of shape) were all in suits for Wednesday's game. Woodson said they were held out of action strictly for precautionary reasons.

I'm with you Saucery, I am very excited about our team. I think we SHOULD win 53-55 games and COULD win a few more. We have a chance to be up there with the Magic at the end of the season as I previously stated.

More positives about Rio. The dude is a workhorse and I'm going to be furious if we keep the full 15 and he is not on the team. There is simply no reason not to keep a guy like that around.

I did hear Holman mention on the radio broadcast that a lot of teams might just keep 13 players to start the season because of the economy and the Hawks might be one of them. Thought that was pretty interesting.

I went to the game last night. I was really impressed by Mario West and Othello Hunter, they are both hustle guys that bring a lot of intangibles that might not necessarily show up on the box score but could help our team. I liked what I saw out of Teague too, he has so much confidence in himself and it shows in his game. He missed his first 3 or 4 shots but he didn't let it get to him, he stuck with it. He can blow by defenders and looks to take it to the whole when he sees any little crease in the D. Joe's shot was butter! Hopefully he will play all out this year since he's chasing a big contract. Joe also showed off his handles he shook some guy (I think it was Songalia) right out of his shoes....embarrassing. Jamal Crawford's shot was off but I'm not worried about him...and the reports are true that he actually likes to pass the ball. He made some beautiful dishes.

Seeing this game just makes me that much more excited to get the season started!!
