Ideas to Improve the Jays Forum?

Post#1 » by LittleOzzy » Sat Oct 17, 2009 12:54 am

Thus us just a general thread to get an idea on what you guys like and what you guys don't like about the Jays forum. As Mods we do our best to keep this place active and you're opinions on the board will really help us improve this place for next season.

So what do you like, what did you hate? Did we sticky the right threads, did we sticky too many things?

What was missing? Thread, Topic ideas?

What would you like to see for next season?

I'll get the ball rolling.

Next season if possible I would like to see a Daily Papers thread. It's one of the best things on the Raptors forum and I would like to see that done here too.

or do you guys like every news story to have it's own thread like it's currently set up?

Unfortunately, the correct answer is a better team on the field.

This board was pretty live during April/May. Just goes to show what winning can do for interest.

As for board improvements, I also think there should be an always-stickied daily papers thread should be where all the game recaps and minor tidbits from the night before are thrown into. Bigger news like clubhouse rifts, rumoured transactions, things like that deserve their own thread.

Series thread maker tradition should remain, except if the Jays tie a series, the current OP remains the OP for the next series thread.

There is a thread dedicated to it further back somewhere. It isn't a great source of discussion, it seems.

How about a stickied thread where we do nothing but insult Richard Griffin...without linking to or even bothering to read his articles? I could get behind that.

Maybe in the series threads, one person can be designated to post the game's boxscore (I'd do it if I wasn't computer iliterate). Boxscores are easy to look at/understand and can reveal patterns that people might not have noticed over the course of the game. They're an easy to access talking point.

I think what Schad did a while back asking people to come over to this board helps. I didn't know it existed until I read that, so somehow advertising in other forums would be cool.

Or someone could be controversial like the Palmer dude and say things that beg responsed. But then again, that can be annoying...

Baseball is a game of stats, maybe having a designated stats guy might do it.

Series threads are always a good idea - keep that up..

That's all for now.

**I actually like the Jays Forum..probably more than the Raptors forum..Probably just needs abit more traffic..
But it really comes down to how the Jays are playing...they play well..everything will be good..they don't....well...

I didn't have any problems with this board. We have a well behaved, knowledgeable bunch here with some insightful debates at times. Even though some debates got heated, it still stayed civil unlike on the Raps board. Mods are also on top of things here.

I think you will normally see a dip in traffic here over the summer since most people will be out and about in the evenings and weekends.

I think the most important thing is that we make sure to direct all the Jays-related traffic through here. When Rios was donated to Chicago, there was a thread on the Raps board that lasted for more than a page I believe before moving here. That stuff needs to be locked/moved here immediately to bring new people in.

I'm not necessarily opposed to the idea of a Dailies thread but oftentimes I think it'll be better to post bigger stories on their own because we get good discussion out of these threads.

Also I posted this in the Suggestions & Feedback forum like six months ago, but we need to get a forum link to the OTC board on here next to the Raps & Leafs board links.
