Major League Soccer Forums?

Post#1 » by LittleOzzy » Thu Oct 15, 2009 6:18 pm

Hey,

This is just an idea that I had. I was thinking lately that with the growth of the league and the overwhelming popularity of soccer that RealGM should set up a Major League Soccer forum. I have always thought of RealGM as a North American sports forum and that's why I think adding MLS would be a great idea.

The League is growing every year and the soccer is getting better and better so why not jump into the mix and try and attract some fans here? The MLB, NFL, and NHL forums are growing but I still think you are missing out on a great fan base.

A forum set up like the following would be amazing:

General MLS Discussion
Player Comparisons
Trades and Transactions
International Soccer
Premier League
Minor Leagues
NCAA Soccer

Chicago Fire
Chivas USA
Colorado Rapids
Columbus Crew
DC United
FC Dallas
Houston Dynamo
Kansas City Wizards
Los Angeles Galaxy
New England Revolution
New York Red Bulls
Philadelphia Union
Real Salt Lake
San Jose Earthquakes
Seattle Sounders FC
Toronto FC

This way we'll have somewhere to talk about international FIFA competitions, The Premier League as well have a section for every MLS team.

Has RealGM ever had any discussions about adding a soccer forum? Do you think it's something that could be possible?

This may never happen, but I thought it could be interesting.

I like the idea, especially here in Toronto, the forum would be packed.

Love it as well !

Now... Who voted no ? Why ?
I am not a basebal fan, but I do not have a problem with RealGM having a MLB forum.

It doesn't really *cost* anything to add these extra soccer forums, aside from a little work to add them. If there is no traffic there, there will be no bandwidth costs - but if there is traffic, there is potential ad revenues for soccer specific sponsors who may not consider realgm otherwise.

Further, I think there are a lot of soccer fans who aren't necessarily fans of the other major sports currently on realgm, along with international fans, who would represent previously un-tappable viewers that can be brought to the site. I'd post in the TFC / international areas, since this is one f the few sports sites I make time for lately. It's a pain to register at new sites all the time so the critical mass already on realgm would make for more instant traffic.

I know teams like Toronto FC will get good traffic, NY Red Bulls and LA Galaxy will receive some traffic but who'd care about the likes of Kansas City Wizards and the rest of the pack? Does this deserve an entire sub section of a forum?

We already have fan groups make threads for Juventus, Arsenal and Manchester United on the soccer forum and even then other than a close bunch of regulars, the activity isn't very high there.

Yay: Gen board and team boards

Nay: Every other boards

All these trades and transactions/buisness/ncaa/whatever never get any burn on the MLB, NFL, and NHL boards. I don't see why we would need it for soccer. Is there anyway we could take them out of the MLB/NFL/NHL boards? Would it do anything to improve the speed of the site or would it be useless?

But I really like this idea besides that.

I agree with this. I just added them as it would make the site looked uniformed. Then again with so many transfers in Soccer the trade board could be used a lot.

Ozzy... With the World Cup coming up I'd imagine gearing something towards that, if only for a limited time would be great (Let's go England!). The Premiership and Serie A could certainly be successful forums - and would draw a lot of international posters perhaps - we are seeing them post more on the Raptors Forum with all the Euros the team has accumulated and perhaps we could build on that.

Just my 2 cents.

The newest board are still a working progress and I believe Soccer would be no different. A couple of the team boards or general board would most likely be active, but I doubt it would be as active as some of you believe.

I'm still waiting for the NFL and MLB boards to be more active......

No! MLS is a joke and there is nothing to talk about it. Make a real Football section and European clubs and stuff like that so we can talk football in there. We have something like called Soccer but it's not fancy so we football fanatics have to work with what we can get.

If you can make this better for Football, I bet you anything with in 4-6 months it will blow up! All you have to do is report what goes around in the Football World and call it Football don't call it bloody Soccer that is a CRIME in the World just not in America, and it's disrespect, because Football is the most populated sport in the World it demands respect it doesn't ask for it.

But if you do the job correct and make new updates and reports stuff like that like you do with NBA I get you anything RealGM will BLOW UP bigger, I mean you will get BILLIONS of people coming on here from all over the World, trust me no sport comes close to Football. So you must take the benefits from it, change RealGM round and do what you do with NBA and you will be Millions of people coming in, in 2-5 years it could go to Billions look what YouTube, the hit a billion.

The reason I suggested MLS Soccer is because it's only starting to get big and RealGM could get in now and grow with the sport.

European football is better I agree, but the internet is already filled with dozens and dozens of forums for the Premiership and what not. So why compete when you can go in a different direction and attract new fans as they start to enjoy the sport.

Just my opinion. Looks like from the poll not many people like the idea anyways.

Don't you think that could be a little confusing? Take into consideration the fact that this is an American based website, and in America there's a very popular sport that is also called football. So there's a couple options, we can start calling it 'non-American football', or 'the other football', or 'football with a round ball', or we can continue to call it soccer as we have for years.

I think an MLS board is a good idea; I can see the popularity, living in Toronto. But I think an entire league of forums would go the way of the baseball, football and hockey boards.

No since Football is older and 77% of the World population plays the sport. That stat goes it to all sports and Football blows out every sport in the World. The crap you play in America can be called simply American Football or Americanball what Europeans/Asians call it. It's an insult to call Football "The other football" get serious mate, the game it's self is OLDER hen JESUS CHRIST himself  I think it deserves every respect.

And you think if you made an MLS section it would be more active? Even Americans watch European clubs they don't watch MLS clubs because the play is a joke and has more beautiful skill.

If you made a Football section it would attractive people like me that know Football and our passionate, that creates activity and it would bring in more people from Europe this place would go more international. Right now it's just North America, but if you got the Europe members this place would explode.

That was exactly my point. What you're suggesting is that every American (and Canadian) refer to our football as 'American football' or 'Canadian football', despite the fact that we've been simply calling it football our entire lives. It's ridiculously arrogant.

I guess, but it's a young sport. It's nowhere near old enough like Football.

I think one MLS board and one international soccer board is enough. (Sorry, football... you get the point.) Individual team boards for more popular North American sports don't get much traffic.
