Hey, not a bad idea. The way Amare rebounds, I think he is bench material.

Last season I was all for Matt Barnes starting over Grant Hill, and was kinda upset to see Hill back in lineup, but after seeing how great he played, I don't believe he's a guy that deserves to be a bench player. He deserves to be a starter and don't see him coming off the bench again.

I do believe it's a good idea though to see how it works out. I think Grant will take less pressure of Goran, with help of ball handling. I'm excited to see how Dudley plays this season. Anybody remember that game where he brought us back to send the game to OT in Utah. :P

In the 30 MPG Grant played last year:

12 ppg on 52.4% from the field, 4.9 rpg, 2.3 apg, 1.1 spg & .7 bpg

...and you want to bench this guy? That's one of the best supporting stat lines in the league.

Until Dudley can slash, dunk, rebound, pass & lead even remotely close to the level that Grant can, this conversation should be an after thought.

/thread.

Grant Hill would be great running the second unit but last year proved he was much more effective starting than subbing so I say keep him in the starting lineup.

Amare has to take care of himself. Get rebounds and play some D. When he jumps out on his man or tries to deflect a pass and gets out of position, he hardly ever works to get back. It looks more like he takes the possession off and waits for the other team to make the layup...

Hey! What do you know? Paul Coro just wrote a piece on how Jared Dudley is now the new Bruce Bowen!

I love the timing of this article in relation to this thread. Even more reason why Dudley should start and Hill needs to sit:

Thank you, Coro.

How about just having Hill and Dudley play along side each other giving us two good perimeter defenders? I'm not in favor of benching J Rich because he needs a guy like Nash to set him up in good spots to get his points he's not a take you off the dribble kind of guy ala Joe Johnson, Brandon Roy so he needs a good point guard playing with him.

I see both sides to the argument about Starting/not starting dudley and if Hill cannot play well off the bench he should remain the starter. Coro saying Dudley will become the next bruce bowen is more of a dan bickley article due to the ridiculous timing. Bickley is funny with his timing of articles.

are you impling that bruce bowen should start ove r Grant hill? thats stupid.

plus, seeing this article in the paper this morning made me want to fall off a cliff. everyone hates bruce bowen, and i dont want to have anyone like that on our team, regardless of how many championships it brings us. whats next, robert horry? i hope coro is wrong.

Jared Dudley wrote:For me to play a long career, I have to defend like that and shoot the ball," Dudley said. "I'm not someone who will take you off the dribble. For me to play 10-12 years, I have to do that and knock down 3s. I can come off the bench and stretch the floor.

Dudley isn't under any delusions of grandeur. You shouldn't be either.

I am just as excited about the potential impact Dudley will have on this team, but you don't win games on "potential", you win them with proven leadership and performance.

Maybe there is an arguement later on in the season for a promotion of sorts, but Dudley will already be the #2 SF on a potential playoff team. You have to actually consistantly produce to become the #1 on the post-season team.

The same Bruce Bowen who started over guys like Manu Ginobili, Michael Finley, Roger Mason, and Ime Udoka?

Then yes. Hell yes. There is a reason Greg Pop started the less talented Bowen and brought all those offensive firepowers (Manu, Finley) off the bench. It is called strategy and it won championships.

Manu came off the bench because he's 6MOY material every year. Finley came off the bench because he's old as dirt. If Hill could play well off the bench, then sure, let him come off the bench, but we already tried what you're proposing so vehemently last season and it just didn't work out well. Hill saw his stats decline in every single category as a bench player, and he was largely ineffective.

i was going to say what rsavaj said. aslo, Hill is the captain of this team, and one of the biggest class act in the NBA. hill is also miles better than dudley at all the stuff the dudley, as the new bruce bowen, is supposed to bring to the table.

i honestly can't believe you are keeping this up. dudley WANTS to come off the bench. he deserves to come off the bench. why would you ruin such a great thing with hill as a starter, where he plays the best.
