Dorsey, Pops, Conroy, Beck or Temple

OK, here's the situation for you RealGMer's:

The Rockets have one slot available, and it will go to either Dorsey, Pops, Conroy, Beck or Temple.

The rest of the roster is set no changes can be made there: you have to pick one of these five guys to make the team.

Who gets it?

As I understand it, Barry will be bought out, and Dorsey is already under contract, so he will remain with the team. By my math, that leaves one spot for Pops, Conroy, Beck and Temple to battle for.

My money is on Pops, but Conroy is the darkhorse.

Beck and Temple have no chance whatsoever.

Based on our weakness down low...Pops should go ahead and pack his bags because he's moving to Houston. I don't see the Rockets taking another guard.

The other day, i saw Brent Barry on NBA TV wearing a nice suit talking about the upcoming season with Eric Snow. I think he has unofficially retired. He's an awful analyst tho, not nearly as charismatic as his brother. So yes with Barry retired and Dorsey still under contract, i think the final roster spot will go to.... Pops. He's playing too well to cut him.

I agree. I want to see both Pops make the team as well. And Dorsey to be in the rotation regularly damn it.

At least from the few minutes Conroy and Pops have had in the preseason, both are good performers.

Conroy so far this preseason has averaged a .565 WP48 (more than 5 times above average). That's of course not sustainable, but he is making the most of his minutes and seems to play very hard. He also gets to the foul line a lot, 13.3 times per 48 minutes. Chris Paul, by comparison, gets to the line only 8.4 times per 48 minutes.

Pops is, as everyone knows, a good rebounder at 16.2 per 48 minutes and shot blocker at 4.7 per 48 minutes. Dwight Howard last season averaged only 2 more rebounds per 48 than Pops and averaged fewer blocks per 48 minutes. Pops is posting a .206 WP48 so far this preseason, which is more than 2 times the average.

Letting either one of these players go seems to be a mistake. Conroy, though, is stuck at a position we have filled, whereas Pops is not. Since efficiency and productivity only matter with minutes, Pops should probably be retained over Conroy. Hopefully Conroy will get plenty of time in the D league this year to further develop his game. He could be a very productive point guard in the future.

conroy ... every team need a 3rd pg
pops is good but he wont see much playing time playing behind scola, landry, hayes, andersen (you think dorsey will play?)
unless we can trade or buyout cook
no reason to keep pops

All I can say is that Dorsey is driving me nuts with his boneheadedness and crack-like addiction to fouling.

You are assuming Dorsey stays on the team. I highly doubt it. My belief is he's traded as a straight salary dump to Memphis,Phoenix(has TEs),whoever.
Rockets will try and trade Barry to someone like Clips who have TE,still be under Lux Tax and send cash to cover buyout and a bit more.
Later,towards trade deadline,Cook gets traded ala Francis.
Suprise,this puts team under Lux Tax level,even w/the signing of Pops and Conroy,and enough left over to offer min contract at trade deadline .

Pops and Conroy both make team. Barry,Dorsey both gone.

i think Dorsey will go. This project seems to be going no where.

i dont know what you guys see in conroy but i dont see his skills surpass Pops skills. And you can get plenty of conroys in the league. Pops can make a difference in the lineup right now, he can cover landry or David andersens pf/c position. But conroy is just a 3rd stringer behind brooks and lowry.. There's plenty of undersized pg's in the d league that we can pick up if lowry or brooks get injured.. So noobs.. I hope you guys arent right. Because Pops is an explosive defensive big man who'll be a good backup. Adelmans crazy if he doesnt pick pops.

Pops in a landslide. Dorsey maybe traded, which will allow Conroy to stay as well. Cook is garbage, wish they could trade him so that Dorsey could stay. Cook's contract is an anchor. No team wants that contract now, even if it is expiring after this year.

Pop's!!!!! It makes the most sense to me. He could be another Wafer in waiting. We need to solidify the C position. Although I disagree that Andersen is soft in the low post. He's just used to a more zone orientated defence. We all know he isn't going to go toe to toe in the low block with the likes of Howard, Shaq etc. That's what we have Chuck Wagon for.

What will be his strength, is drawing the C's out of their position. If Brooks or whoever is driving the lane, he can make for a great option with a Pick and Pop, or even Screen and Roll plays, and has decent range on his shot. I have said this from the first day he was signed, Damage Assesment will be a solid option, not an All-Star one.

I wonder if there's any possibility that McCants is looked at again. Given that his non-signing really seemed to be a politically correct way of saying "whoa sh** no thanks!" I doubt it, but if they were being genuine about his injury, he might.

Btw, I think it's getting pretty safe to say that Dorsey gives Morey his first draft bust.

(Less in that he drafted him, given that he was a second rounder, and more in that he's been with the team for over a year with very little forward momentum/improvement. I think it has more to do with Dorsey than Morey, and that if he can set his head straight on what he needs to do that he can still be productive, but it's looking like he needs a [more] major wake up call [than not playing for an entire season].)
