Packers at this point
Dropped passes?
5 sacks? (against DL with 3 starters out?)
a zillion penalties?
What was any better than before the bye?
Sportswriter said it right - Ugly win.
But a win!
Ayt was right being exasperated - Reveal flea-flicker against Lions?
Ques- Why not rest Clifton against Lions? Ans - Coaches were desparate.
Jackson? Grant? Wynn? wow how underwhelming can you get?
West Coast reappearance welcome but loong overdue. Why was it ever gone?
Finally Hawk sits. Next? Barnet sits & Bishop gets a shot.
Yes - finally Kampman rushing from hands in dirt. FINALLY. - MORE PLEASE
Go Clay!
TT may have had his best draft with Clay, BJ & TJ.
Coaching is very very suspect.

Re: Packers at this point
Schedule next few weeks:
@ CLE
VS MIN
@ TB
VS DAL
VS SF
@ DET
Um, yeah. We take care of business and go at LEAST 5-1 in that stretch and we're sitting pretty. I know December is tough but I think all we'd really need to do would be winning 1 of 3 against Baltimore at home, Bears at Soldier, or Pittsburgh at Heinz. Seattle isn't very good and they lost Lofa for the year so their D will probably take a beating and Arizona (hopefully) has the division clinched in week 17. Plus our offense playing indoors or in warm weather would be very beneficial.
There wasn't a lot of good to take away today besides the simple fact that we beat a team by 26 points without playing a real good game. I know it was Detroit, but 5 of our next 6 opponents are teams that we should handle. Dallas isn't very good and I don't think the Niners are anything special either. Time to take advantage of a weak schedule.

Re: Packers at this point
Yup.
We need to be AT WORST 7-4 going into the final 5 games or we're in trouble.

Re: Packers at this point
Too early to judge Raji, he hasn't done anything. The highlight of the season has been Matthews. He's the playmaking linebacker we thought we were getting with Hawk. We're lucky we've had the Rams and Lions on the schedule or we wouldn't be 3-2.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Re: Packers at this point
Granted the Lions game skews things, but we're top ten in all four of the following categories:
Defensive points allowed
Defensive yards allowed
Offensive points scored
Offensive yards
We are absolutely killing ourselves with two things:
1. OL breakdowns
2. Penalties in HUGE situations
If the OL was even average and we were average in penalties, we'd probably be scoring over 30 ppg. The D hasn't been this dominating force, but they are stopping the run and not allowing that many big plays via the passing game.
Next week is obviously a must win, and then the week after is if we have any delusions of winning the division.

Penalties in general, IMO.
I would add a 3 to your list and put poor play calling up there as well, Luke. McCarthy and entire coaching staff has me worried that they cannot get the job done.

Agreed. Sloppy play in general comes back to coaching. Failure to adjust comes back to coaching. Packers are poor in both areas. You can't keep saying, "we will get the penalties cleaned up" and then every week we have almost double digit penalties. That is on the coach, he's obviously not getting through to these guys. If MM doesn't make the playoffs this year he is definitely on the hot seat, as is TT (because of the OL).

I think that if we fail to make the playoffs, MM will be fired and TT will be put on the hot seat. At least that's how I think it should be.
There are so many questions I have for our coaching staff that just baffle me. The play calling seems terrible to me, the penalties are getting ridiculous and then there are just random things like putting Charles Woodson back on punts... That was one of the stupidest things I have seen us do this year, it was just asking for a disaster to happen.

Re: Packers at this point
Peter King has Matthews as his defensive player of the week:
In the Pack's 26-0 whitewashing of Detroit, Matthews had two sacks, another tackle for loss, a pass batted down and five tackles. Green Bay held Detroit to 71 net passing yards, and Matthews played the biggest role.

I think Raji still has a lot of potential... I think we got two guys in the first round this year that could end up being Pro Bowl level players.

I haven't even paid much attention to Raji, how has he been playing? It's hard to follow the DL in a 3-4 since they aren't in on the action nearly as much as 4-3 DL.

Yeah Raji has potential but after 5 games he's shown nothing yet. I know he's been injured. Let's hope he shows something the rest of the way.

From what I saw, he didn't really get a whole lot of PT... I think his ankle is still bothering him.
It is hard to judge who is and isn't doing well on a 3-4 line. Their job is basically, from what I have seen and understand, to just occupy the linemen while everyone else makes most of the plays.

MM on Matthews:
On Clay Matthews: "He's talented. I thought Clay took full advantage of his opportunities to start in both the base and the nickel. He's been coming on strong. His performance up there in Minnesota was a big part of us making this change."

B.J. Raji tweaked his ankle again so McCarthy pulled him

Hopefully Bigby remains healthy the rest of the year. Say whatever you want about him, but he's a lot better than the alternatives and our other DBs seem to really trust him.

A WHOLE lot better than the alternatives. Our backup safeties have been so bad that it has handcuffed our entire defensive playbook when they've been in.

Take this for what it's worth, but we held teams under 20 points 5 times all of last season. So far we've done it 3 times this season.

Re: Packers at this point
I'd love to see a blockbluster trade, but I don't see it happening - at least for the Packers. It'd be nice to package Kampman, Hawk and a 1st rounder next year to the Browns for Joe Thomas or to the Rams for Steven Jackson.
