League Pass Broadband - Raptor games
NBA League Pass Broadband is finally available. They are offering it for $139 US for the entire season. But Games will be blackout depending on where your IP server is. Hence, if you use a Canadian ISP then you wont be able to watch raptors games.
Has anyone ever used a proxy server or IP masking software to change their IP location and had any success with stuff like this.. particularly for league pass?
I know there are a lot of Univ students that want to watch the raptors but cant because they dont have TVs.
Anyone have experience with this?

Re: NBA League Pass Broadband - $139
the NBA league pass is frustrating. Why wont they let me pay them to watch Raptors games? Instead they dont get anything from me and Ill still find a way to watch 90% of the time.
Anyway I signed up for the MLB one and tried to use proxy servers but I gave up pretty quickly. The ones I was using slowed down the feed enough so that it wasn't good quality. I was worried about the viruses from some of the websites that seemed a little sketchy so I didnt explore too much.

The blackout policies are such a joke. How they protect the interests of the league and the Raptors is beyond me... just give me a stream of the Raptor's home broadcaster and the advertisers are happy.
But hey, If the NBA doesn't want my $139, then I'll just keep on using the free streams.

Do they blackout all the Raptors games everywhere in Canada? How does this work?

and $139 is quite a hefty price. it looks like the $89 option for your favorite 7 teams is a better value.

Yeah, I'm going with that. Here is my potential team lineup:
Raptors, Spurs, Hornets, Trailblazers, Magic, Thunder
I need to choose one more. Any suggestion for an under-the-radar team?

Maybe it's an outdated model, now that we can all get around it if we really want to, but this is done because the local broadcasters / cable stations (TSN, The Score, CBC, etc) pay money to win the rights to broadcast those specific games. Cable customers then pay to have those cable channels in their package, so if having Raptors games on TSN2, for example, will normally attract people to subscribe to that channel, then if those customers could just get around that by paying directly to the NBA the channels would lose money and the local teams wouldn't be able to charge as much for broadcast rights.
On the other hand, out of market teams don't broadcast in the local area anyways, so any extra viewers are icing on the cake and not taking away from the paid TV viewers.
If NBA league pass paid the local broadcasters / teams for rights to distribute content online, then that would be a different story, but I'm sure they'd just rather stick with what has been working up till now.

Re: NBA League Pass Broadband - Raptor games
I have a technique I use to be able to watch streaming videos on US sites blocked in Canada like Southpark Studios, Comedy Central etc. - maybe it will work for this:
First you need Firefox and this addon: http://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/967&
1) In Firefox, Go to tools->modify headers
2) From the drop down box on the left select add
3) Then enter: "X-Forwarded-For" in the first input box without the quotation marks
4) Enter: "12.13.14.15" in the second input box without the quotation marks
5) Leave the last input box empty, and save the filter, and enable it
6) Click the 'Configuration' tab on the right then proceed to check the 'always on' button. It should look like this:

7) Close the Modify Headers box and it should work (maybe restart Firefox?)

Preach.
Why do these comanies and leaggues fight it?
They will ALWAYS lose and we the consumer will always be a step ahead of them.
They should respect the consumer and give them what they want because the streams will never end.

Can you do this to watch previous episodes of shows off of the Fox website?

Aren't the Blazers offering FREE streams on their website come the new year?
why not add DENVER (i like them, chauncy and melo and MR.VERSATILITY himself(fingers crossed)) and LAKERS (or Mavs) and get these 7 plus 3/4 of blazer games?
personally wouldnt waste a free team on blazers unless their ur top 5 favourite team. The online stream the blazers want to do has never been done by them so they may have issues early on.

Re: NBA League Pass Broadband - Raptor games
i heard your credit billing info has to match the zip code you give, and they will block whatever local area you do give as your billing address (alaska anyone??)...
also, i heard it's really hard to bypass the IP stuff without having a negative impact on the feed...thus, if you want a high quality picture, you're kinda screwed...it sounds like going the normal route to getting streams for free is less of a hassle...

If I pay $89 to watch 7 teams, I better be able to watch every game, which I get the feeling is not the case (though I can't find a definitive answer on NBA.com). Do the same blackout rules apply to the 7 team option?
I remember using League Pass Broadband during the trial period last year and found that way too many games, including the ones that I wanted to see, were blacked out.

Yes, blackouts do apply so read the fine print.. Every game on NBA TV, ESPN, TNT, and ABC will be blacked out.. They were last year..
So don't waste your money if you want to see the Lakers/Cavs/Magic/Pistons frequently, especially during the second half of the season..

The NBA doesn't want my $139, so I'll continue watching steams for free.
