B. Lopez a legit 2nd round pick?

Post#1 » by ChronicKerr » Tue Oct 20, 2009 11:03 pm

After the run of stud bigs goes at the end of the first there is a sudden drop off.

I pick at the end of the 2nd in a 12 team league and wondering if it's too big a reach to go after Lopez.

I'd take him there, sure. In fact he's who I'll be targeting if I have pick towards the end of the second or the beginning of the third.

You're right about the stud bigs. After Lopez goes, all the C's available in the early rounds are seriously flawed. Aldridge and Bargnani don't rebound enough and Bynum is fragile (though I still like him in the 4th). If you want big man #'s w/out sacrificing your FT%, Lopez is the last stop.

That's what I was thinking as well. I'm going Kobe in the first and Brook towards the end of the 2nd and hoping to grab Josh Smith in the third (I think he'll be closer to 2 years ago in production than last year), although Arenas would be a tempting third round pick as well.

I'd grab him in the 2nd. Im in a 13 man roto league (picking 7th) and was lucky to get him in the 3rd. I grabbed Howard in the 1st, Kidd in the 2nd and Lopez in the 3rd. There is a big drop off after Lopez, but i still was able to snatch up Nene in the 5th (Nuggets are making plays for him and have made remarks about trying to get him to be an all-star this year). After the draft, i have had 3 offers for Lopez and 4 for Nene, so get your bigs while you can because there will always be people looking to trade for them! :D

Yeah I ended up drafting Brand in the third round as I waited on Lopez and he was gone.. I drafted Brand first round last year and was fortunate enough to get Bosh for him before he got hurt.. I hope he can return to form this season

I'd go as high as early 3rd round. There is too much talent there to go for the stats you can get elsewhere. I think there are plenty of solid bigs 2 or 3 rounds later that don't hurt FT% as bad as long as you get a guy who gets to the line with that 2nd or 3rd round pick. Even something like Troy Murph in the 3rd or 4th with a guy who gets Blk's later. I'll take overall value and production before taking him just because he's the last top big.

If I get a top 4 pick in my 12 team draft, that'll be my plan as well. Anything after that and it won't make sense -- my second pick will be too early and my third pick too late.

Lopez is a good late 2nd round pick.
