Keeper league - Wade for Durant straight up

Post#1 » by makegreatpets » Mon Oct 19, 2009 1:00 am

Hi guys, I'm in a 10 manager keeper league. We get to hold on to 4 players for keepers, and get to keep rookies for 3 years. I was offered Wade for Durant straight up. What do you guys think? This is my team this year, yahoo eligibility. (I know Yao Ming isn't playing this year. He was one of my keepers. I'm hoping he returns as a top center next year.)

I wouldn't do it. Wade is 28 and a huge injury risk, Durant is young and healthy.

Wade is a safer bet. Durant is a bigger risk, but could have a higher reward. Depends how lucky/risky you feel.

Wade should be better this season if he's healthy, but not a wide margin, Durant OTOH has a much higher long term value, I'd go with Durant.

Wade, no doubt, He does it all, even blocks.... i dont know how this is an issue. Wade is not old, hes only 28 and proven. And he still on a weak team where he has to continue doing it all. Wade by a landslide imo.

Keeper League means you should keep Durant as your cornerstone for the next 10 years, he is a beast and only getting better.

I think Wade will help you more right now, alot more. But KD will be prime when Wade is declining.

Without Yao the "right now" thing probably doesn't mean too much.

I've never done a keeper league, so I have to ask: how many years would you get to keep Wade or Durant?

In our league in theory, you could possibly keep 4 players as keepers until they literally retire, but no one would do that obviously because most players' numbers would've fallen off quite a bit well before they actually retire. Generally (or hopefully), you'd find better fantasy players to keep by then.

The way drafting/keeping rookies works in our leagues is that a manager can keep players who have been in the league two years or less without taking up a keeper spot. Essentially, they act as keepers in the respect that they can be carried over to the new season without actually taking up a keeper spot on the condition that they were on your team at the end of the previous season. We call them prospects. Since this is Durant's third year in the league, last season was the last season I got to keep him as a prospect. Next year, he will have to take up a keeper spot if I want to keep him which unless I get brain damage or someone offers me something ridiculously good. Wade just happens to be ridiculously good so this offer's got me thinking.

And yes, my team on previous seasons haven't done well (that's why I get for building my team around injury prone players - McGrady, Boozer and Yao - I'm a sucker, I really believed in McGrady's talent and that he'd eventually turn it around, that's what killed me the most. I drafted him with my first round draft pick the first year of our league in 2003). I always ended up on the bubble as far as playoffs go. Draft order for teams that miss the playoffs go into a lottery, and I just happened to be really lucky as far as that goes hence my being able to draft Durant and Rose as rookies.

Most of the managers in the league are old college buddies so that's why our keeper league is more fun for me than just some random league where I wouldn't know anybody.
