West and Sims cut

Post#1 » by dpaulh » Wed Oct 21, 2009 4:49 pm

That leaves only Hunter and Siler as free agents left.

I have to admit that West and Sims were the two that I wanted to see make it. I have a bad feeling that a good team somewhere will pick up West as a defensive specialist. I also think that Sims might find a niche somewhere as a nice bench player.

We are down to 14 now, do you think one more will go?

Definitely is a shock the Super Mario will not make the squad this year....If you ask me that will leave us a spot to fill for an additional perimeter who could find spare minutes behind Marvin and occasionally behind Joe if Crawford gets used at PG at all...A guy like Stackhouse would be great...

I'm really going to miss Mario's undeniable energy and hustle...

Thanks for your hard work and Good Luck Mario!!!

C - Horford / Zaza / Collins / Siler or Morris
PF - Smoove / Joe Smith / Hunter or Siler
SF - Marvin / Mo / ?
SG - Joe / Crawford / ?
PG - Bibby / Teague / (Crawford)?

The departures continue from the Hawks...the team just released C Garret Siler. Thirteen players now make up the team.

I wonder if they are going to bring someone else in...? (Just speculating).

Congrats to Hunter!

I'm legitimately upset we didn't keep Rio. There is absolutely no reason not to have that guy on your roster.

Down to 13. It would seem that the rumors about not keeping a full roster are true. I'm going to miss Mario.

The one that surprises me is Siler. I figure him for the 14th or 15th man and a d-league assignment because that kind of size is harder to find. I'm going to infer that he's further away than a year in development from NBA minutes and they are willing to chance losing him rather than pay for his development.

It just hit me that Siler was cut after practice (Mario and Sims before practice) and it reminded of something I think Chris Rock said a long time ago . . . "Don't fire me at the end of the day. If you are going to let me go you better call me at home so I don't waste gas money driving in."

I guess they needed one last look to decide if he was worth the investment right now.

Congrats to Hunter!

Unfortunately I've been too busy this offseason to watch other teams so I can't really identify other prospects that may have been cut from other teams that would be a good fit for the Hawks. Perhaps Larry Hughes

That's really not relevant when you realize what his role is. The fact that he offers little offensively matters very little considering his ON COURT role is not a large one.

We're talking about a guy that wouldn't even dress for half the games, yet he is adored by his teammates and works his butt off and makes other players better in practice. There is simply no reason to cut a guy like that.

Sims is the one that surprises me. I could see him landing on a roster somewhere.

Mario I think could REALLY use some time over in Europe trying to become a useful player on offense.

I thought it was going to be between Hunter and Sims. If we have an injury at SF and PF, we'd be in trouble without one of these 2. There's no way we'd keep Mario knowing he would make over 1M due to the fact he's in the league for 3 years. I've said it before and here it goes again, he doesn't have the talent and skills to be an NBA player. Like most of you, I admire the fact he brings it all every night, but what he brings is just not enough to keep him on a roster. I just wish we could've found a way to get rid of Morris, this way we could try to develop guys like Siler or Sims.

Does paying Mario just over $1M for one season really matter that much? I'm not seeing how that is such a big deal financially.

Bring back anybody and replace that waste Morris, Bring back Sheldon/Theo/John Edwards/Predrag/Esteban Batista for heavens sake.Anybody and get the sleepwalking bench warmer out of here.At least Esteban would provide you with comedic moments as he tackled and hacked his opponent the little time he got in. Why in the hell would you give Morris a guaranteed contract is beyond me.
