Tell me how I did please!

Post#1 » by LifeBaller11 » Thu Oct 22, 2009 4:47 am

I'm not really experienced doing roto leagues but here's my team, please tell me what my potential holes are going to be and what my strengths are.

Standard 9 Cats - FG%, FT%, 3's, Pts, Rebs, Asst, Stls, Blks, TO

I had 9th pick out of 11 teams, thought 9th was the worse possible place to be b/c Dirk went 8th and at 9 with all the all star bigs...amare, cb4, al jefferson, KG, pau gasol, d12 were all still on the board so i would of been ok with one of them being left for me. Just took Amare as the most upside pick out of all the bigs available. Had D12 last yr and though he carried me for boards and blks, i found his TO's and FT% to be to much to make up.

1. (9) Amar'e Stoudemire PF,C
2. (14) Steve Nash PG
3. (31) David Lee PF,C
4. (36) Rashard Lewis SF,PF
5. (53) Anthony Randolph PF
6. (58) Mo Williams PG
7. (75) Tyrus Thomas SF,PF
8. (80) Jason Terry PG,SG
9. (97) Kevin Love PF,C
10. (102) Mario Chalmers PG
11. (119) Chris Kaman C
12. (124) Richard Hamilton SG,SF
13. (141) Anthony Morrow SG,SF

Thanks!

I don't think you did too well in the draft. Amare is OK, but after that most of the players you took were too early IMO. Nas is getting old and might decline, if Deron wasn't on the board I'd rather grab Chauncy or even take another one of the remaining bigs and grab a PG later. Lee is way too early, he usually goes in the 4-5-6 rounds, Lewis is great on paper, but he is suspended for the first 10 games of the season and Orlando is stacked, so his value might drop.

Randolph also goes a round or 2 later most of the time, Thomas should have gone a lot later and Love is out for the first 4-6 weeks of the season.

On the plus side, I think you got some nice steals in the last few rounds with Chalmers, Kaman (If healthy), Morrow and Rip.

Overall, you are pretty good with boards, 3PM and FT% but not great in all the other areas.

I think 9th is the place to take dwight, even with that FT%. There is an article on ESPN that gives a ton of good pointers to win with him. The basics are take other bigs that shoot well (amare, pau, okur, etc.) and take guys that get to the line and shoot well (Keven Martin, Harris, Maggette, etc.)

That being said, I like your team. It is eeriely similar to the guys I target in every draft, minus David Lee and your late rounders. Since love is out for awhile, your board totals are going to be weak. I think this team is a solid 4,5,6 team barring any huge injury or improvement.

4,5,6 team as in middle of the pack?
lol this is a winner take all league so middle of the pack ain't gonna cut it

I guess the problem I had with D12 is like you said you gotta find the guys that shoot volume from the FT line. But I was afraid that would mean that my other picks down the line I'd have to reach for the Kevin Martin's in say the 3rd round to make sure i get him as opposed to him slipping to the 5th round like he did. I would of had to of take Devin Harris with my early 2nd rounder because he was a late 2nd round. And corey maggette if he could only stay healthy then maybe i'd consider him.

Last year, I had LBJ and D12....so I was pretty much last in FT%, 3's and TO's, I finished 2nd but I had no chance of catching first because those two cats i was last in! By the time trade deadline came around, the only thing i could of done to get over the hump was to try and trade d12 but I couldn't get any decent offers.

So yeah my overall strategy this year was to draft players who don't have any major glaring holes that would put me behind the 8 ball to start. I just hope to pick up some steals and blocks off waiver wire and hope for the best.
