Week 7: Packers Vs Browns- Pregame thread

Post#1 » by MartyConlonOnTheRun » Thu Oct 22, 2009 8:40 pm

Browns are definitely hurting a bit.
http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.s ... stabi.html

12 players had the flu this week including Shaun Rodgers.
Hopefully this easy week just got easier.

Clifton still undecided.
http://www.rotoworld.com/content/player ... 112&spln=1

620 Midweek Report on Wednesday:
* Ahman Green is wearing #34 and not his traditional #30. FB John Kuhn, remember, wears #30 now. Green looks like he's extremely fit and carrying a little less weight. That would be understandable since he's coming off of a knee injury. The less weight you carry, the easier it is on your knees.
* Chad Clifton watched practice today and didn't participate. He was in his Wednesday jersey and sweats but only watched from the sidelines.
* Jason Spitz and Korey Hall were not at practice today. Hall is expected to be out at least another week while Spitz is day to day with the back spasms. Two others missing were Jordy Nelson; he's out a couple of weeks with a knee injury and Quinn Johnson an ankle injury.
* Aaron Rodgers was ALSO on the injury report with a sore foot.
* Mark Tauscher worked mainly with the scout team in walk thrus but did workout with the rest of the offensive line during team drills.

What if Crosby gets hurt and we need to kick a field goal?

Is that Ocho Cinco guy available? Not the best kicker, but someone who could plug the hole.

Jeff Risdon (Icness) on our offensive line.

When watching the Packers-Lions game last week, the entire packed bar I was at all came to the same conclusion: if the Packers had even Detroit’s mediocre OL, they might not need to keep a punter on the active roster. But that Green Bay OL is full of holes that Swiss cheese-makers can only dream about; it’s easily the worst in the league. That leaves them vulnerable and puts more pressure on a defense that is still finding its way in the new scheme.

I am afraid for Aaron Rodgers. If he makes it through this year without a serious injury I will be surprised.

Anyone else hear Jamon Meredith started for the Bills. Could they be worse than us or could he have helped us?

Don't the Bills have like four o-linemen hurt?

I forgot to watch Meridith while watching that game.

Hopefully when Cowher takes over after this season he brings in an excellent OL coach.

Heres a good video that shows all of the snaps Lang was in on against the Lions. Obviously mostly running plays, but man, the guy can open some lanes.

That falls directly on the coaching staff...having Jim Campen as the o-line coach is insane...he has no credentials.

Yeah, it sounds like they're pretty high on him. I just know releasing him is going to come back to bite us in the ass...

Yea, I read that Meredith did well. That one hurts. Hopefully Lang has a good day.

What's the over/under on how many plays Hawk is in for? It was 9 last week.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

And he wasn't traded.

The NFL baffles me sometimes.

I think y'all are going to like TJ Lang at RT. My pre-draft thoughts on him:
9. TJ Lang, Eastern Michigan. 6’4”, 312.
Summary: Thickly built warrior who started all 4 years. Very physical, very nasty, very powerful. Fires off the line and gets low quickly with proper knee bend and hip roll. Good phone-booth pass blocker but struggles kicking outside and does not have good recovery speed. Has a jolting hand punch and good timing with it. Real strong drive blocker who can lead the charge and seal open large holes. Did not fare well against quicker ends, though to be fair he played at a program that would struggle to win 5 games at the D-II level and got little help. Lacks ideal arm length, and he needs to learn to grab less and extend his arms more quickly. Probably best served as an NFL guard, but he can fit at RT for power-oriented teams. Impressed at the Texas vs. the Nation game with his tenacity, leadership, and brute power in run blocking. 4th-5th round.

I also rated him as the Packers best draft pick of the class in terms of value.

Regarding Hawk, there was no chatter I heard about moving him. My Pack contacts aren't great but I heard nothing from any other teams either.

Should be in the 40s and raining for kickoff in Cleveland

The Packer should just trade their 1st round picks from now on. When was our last good first round pick?

Clay Matthews... Raji still has a chance to be good. Aaron Rodgers could be (or might already be) an elite player.

On that regard, I will be at the Iowa/MSU game this weekend and so will a Packers scout who will be checking out Brian Bulaga and Greg Jones.

That was a really depressing article on Hawk. You feel for the guy. It is like the Redd situation, except he realizes he's not that great. He worked hard, overachieved, was rewarded and now punished because he plateaued.

I don't really blame Hawk, he seems like a guy that always works hard. I just don't think he can become that player.
