Dionte Christmas arrested on firearms charges
Dionte Christmas, a 6-5, 205-pound basketball player released by the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday, decided to spend the next day driving badly without a license with a gun under his seat.
The AP reports: Police spokesman Lt. Frank Vanore says Christmas was stopped by Highway Patrol officers at about 7:30 p.m. Thursday for erratic driving in North Philadelphia. Vanore says he was found to be driving without a license, and the vehicle had a 9mm semiautomatic pistol under the driver’s seat.
The report says he’s going to be charged with a felony. The Philadelphia Inquirer reports: He was initially stopped for driving erratically, and subsequently found to be driving without a license, Vanore said. The vehicle had a Hi-Point 9mm semiautomatic pistol under the driver’s seat with seven rounds in it, Vanore said. Christmas was taken to the 35th Police District to be charged with felony firearms offenses. His passenger was not charged, Vanore said. Talent-wise, Christmas might be good enough to make an NBA roster but more than likely will head to Europe for an overseas career.

Yannis Koutroupis:
Little early, don't you think? They'll probably look for a center though.

rafeal in detroit:
last question yannis thanks shouldnt pistons send rip hamilton for cap space? to denver? then we could target a big name fa with the 12m we just cleared and since we are at the cap it would be 12m
Yannis Koutroupis:
I'm sure Denver would love that, but Rip's an All-Star caliber player and with so many teams having cap space I think it'd be a mistake for Denver to trade him for anything other than a proven player(s)who can help them right away.

Detroit Pistons @ Milwaukee Bucks: Charlie Villanueva gets his first look at his former team tonight, and should see plenty of minutes since both Ben Wallace and Kwame Brown are questionable with minor injuries. Joe Alexander's hamstring will have him out of the Bucks' lineup for the foreseeable future, but they are otherwise healthy.

Celtics Cut Mike Sweetney
Despite talk that the Celtics wanted to work with Mike Sweetney to get his weight down with hopes that he could contribute by midyear, the team waived the former Georgetown star yesterday to get the roster down to 15. Wolves: Kevin Love's Surgery a Success
The Minnesota Timberwolves are calling surgery to repair forward Kevin Love’s broken left hand a success.

Love is expected to miss six to eight weeks while recovering

Jamison Out 3-5 Weeks
The Washington Wizards are forced to start yet another season with a sidelined all-star after an MRI on Thursday revealed that forward Antawn Jamison's right shoulder injury will force him to miss the next three to five weeks.
This is the second consecutive season that the Wizards have started a regular season with at least one major piece missing. Both Gilbert Arenas and Brendan Haywood were out with injuries at the start of last season, and the Wizards went on to match their worst 82-game season in franchise history. The Wizards, though, are optimistic that because Jamison's injury won't require surgery and since his shoulder has made considerable progress in the past week, it would only keep him out the first 10 or so games.
"He's really ahead of where we anticipated, but we're being really conservative right now," Coach Flip Saunders said on Friday, after the Wizards completed shootaround for their preseason finale against the Chicago Bulls. "We're going to be patient with him. We don't want to take any chances. We want to make sure that thing is right and fully healed."

Ty Lue Retires
Veteran guard Tyronn Lue has joined the Celtics' staff as the director of basketball development.
Lue, who was at practice today in Waltham, will work with the coaching staff and observe practices. The 32-year-old Lue, who averaged 8.5 points per game in 11 NBA seasons for seven teams, won a pair of championship rings as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers earlier this decade.
Lue, who is not expected to resume his career as an active player, is close friends with Celtics star Kevin Garnett.

The Pistons vs. The Timberwolves
UPDATE:
Pistons 114 Timberwolves 122 (Box Score)
Video in the link above^.Defense…. We knew it was going to be a problem, and I know it’s the preaseon, but when you score 114 points that is usually an indication that you won the game.

Pistons score easily, can't get stops
There was a lot of things Pistons coach John Kuester liked about Thursday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The result wasn’t one of them.
