New Site/Stat Database you might find useful

Post#1 » by hoopdata » Sat Oct 24, 2009 10:16 pm

Hey, this probably sounds like spam but it isn't. I have a new site called http://www.hoopdata.com, which has sortable player and team stats for all kinds of stuff from play-by-play data, such as shot locations, and1s, charges, times blocked, assisted field goals, etc. You can also sort by teams so you can see only Nets players. Also, every page has the league averages for every stat, which can also be viewed position by position if you want to see positional averages. It also has all the other basic and advanced stats from around the web, which also can be compared to league averages easily. Every page has an unobtrusive glossary, too, making it easier to get into the stats if you aren't familiar with them.

I know there's tons of huge basketball fans around these forums, which is why I'm coming here to let you know. I know you guys love your team and analyzing it, and I think you'd find a lot of this information really useful, especially stuff like how efficient each player is from each spot on the floor, where your assists are leading to, etc. Shot locations are available at a team level, too, along with everything else.

There's also a season preview for the Nets in the articles section of the site, but I'm sure the stats would be a bit more interesting to you than that. :D

Also, since this site is made specifically to make stats more accessible and understandable to fans, I'd love to hear your feedback if there's anything we could add or do to make the site better/easier to use. We kind of had to rush to get it done in time for the season, so more is to come in the near future in terms of content and functionality.

Hope you all enjoy the site, and looking forward to hear if there's anything we can do to better serve you. Also, side note, there's a problem with the site on Macs using Safari. It works fine in Safari on PC's, but not on Macs, which I can't fix until I get my hands on a Mac. Apologies to anyone using that combination of browser/computer, but we're going to try and fix it asap.

Finally. This is the type of stuff I like :D

I'll be sure to let you know if I come up with any ideas to improve the site / any stats that should be added.
